I would like to se Bill make any mention of Frothers on TMP a Dawghousable offense. I think that one step would eliminate a lot of the rancor that has developed over the last couple of months.

Some posters, including Bill himself, have posted links to Frothers threads. Those always end poorly. I can appreciate the desire to defend yourself or your employees, but those defenses should be posted on Frothers or on your own personal blog, not on TMP.

Other posters have slammed Frothers as a group, again leading to hard feelings all around here on TMP.

Still others have take to using "Frothers" as a general derogatory term. Again, more hard feelings.

It's time to stop all of this and start acting a little more like adults.

John the OFM18 Aug 2014 7:17 a.m. PST

Let me run over to Frothers and see what they have to say about this! grin
Most likely they will accuse you of being one of Dear Editor in chief's sock puppets.
Or Smokey's.
Or Murphy's.
Or mine.
Or Winston Smith's.
Or Connard Sage's.
Or aecurtis'…

Prince Alberts Revenge18 Aug 2014 7:21 a.m. PST

I think one step that would eliminate a lot of rancor would be to keep to topics specifically relevant to the wargaming hobby.

Tango India Mike18 Aug 2014 7:23 a.m. PST

What about if you roll a six? Can you say it then?

deephorse18 Aug 2014 7:30 a.m. PST

How about just enforcing the first of the Rules of Conduct? That seems to have escaped a lot of people's attention.

sneakgun18 Aug 2014 7:32 a.m. PST

Just dawghouse non-gaming topic authors?

thosmoss18 Aug 2014 7:48 a.m. PST

Matthias: Look, I don't think it should be a sin, just for saying "Frothers".
[Everyone gasps]
Jewish Official: You're only making it worse for yourself!
Matthias: Making it worse? How can it be worse? Frothers! Frothers! Frothers!
Jewish Official: I'm warning you! If you say "Frothers" one more time (gets hit with rock) RIGHT! Who did that? Come on, who did it?
Stoners: She did! She did! (suddenly speaking as men) He! He did! He!

genew4918 Aug 2014 8:01 a.m. PST

thosmoss, don't understand what you wrote. Please clue me in.

B6GOBOS18 Aug 2014 8:01 a.m. PST

Thosmoss
very good! That is most excellent and summed up this foolishness.

thosmoss18 Aug 2014 8:09 a.m. PST

sorry, was quoting Monty Python's "Life of Brian", swapping out "Jehovah" for "Frothers".

<*thunk*>

Ow! Who threw that?

genew4918 Aug 2014 8:22 a.m. PST

Thanks, wasn't familiar with it.

RavenscraftCybernetics18 Aug 2014 8:33 a.m. PST

obviously the solution is to make a frother reference board. we can call it Deleted by Moderator playground.

Weasel18 Aug 2014 8:39 a.m. PST

Maybe we can make everyone that posts there wear Deleted by Moderator next to their name…

RavenscraftCybernetics18 Aug 2014 8:40 a.m. PST

oooohhhh good idea! no substitution for the Deleted by Moderator!

Cerdic18 Aug 2014 8:42 a.m. PST

The problem with saying TMP should only be about gaming is that there are plenty of boards here that have been specifically created to discuss other stuff!

Also, if you ban the mention of the 'F' place, posters will allude to it in other ways. It may not be clear where they are talking about, and some readers may get the wrong end of the stick to the detriment of the Lead Adventure Forum for example!

Now. I'll have two big flat ones and a packet of gravel…….

Flecktarn18 Aug 2014 8:43 a.m. PST

Weasel,

I am sure that there are one or two on TMP who would like that.

Jurgen

KatieL18 Aug 2014 8:43 a.m. PST

"we can call it.."

Yes, because more insulting is *definitely* what this whole thing needs to calm it down…

B6GOBOS18 Aug 2014 8:58 a.m. PST

Extra points to Weasel for getting it right! As I said earlier the term frothers is being thrown about like the term communist during the McCarthy hearing. And like that regrettable and sad part of our history it was nothing more then a witch hunt to get rid of or punish those the speaker did not like. Right now it is being used to remove all who question. A great number of people here I may not have agreeded with have been forced out. And this forum is not a better place without them. I like to read opinions different then mind. It opens my mind and of tens gets me to learn something. Wow that is radical. Individuals on this forum bleed but they have a big thread that pokes fun at us. Well read many of the threads here they do the same. Gosh! IIf I were to believe everything written about frothers I would guess they were the cause of all problems in the world including why there is no milk in the fridge for my coffee.

jpattern218 Aug 2014 9:05 a.m. PST

Let me run over to Frothers and see what they have to say about this!
I don't give a rat's ass what anyone on any other website has to say about "this," and neither should you.

When I visit Frothers, I read the excellent hobby-related threads like the one on vintage Citadel minis and I studiously avoid any and all attack threads.

You are right.
They cannot be argued with or reasoned with. It's pointless to try.

I have made a change so that links to the Frothers website on our forum are no longer valid. Perhaps that will discourage some of the animosity.

adster18 Aug 2014 9:35 a.m. PST

Sweeping statements are always true. Always.

Yes and they should all go.

Personal logo Dances With Words Supporting Member of TMP Fezian18 Aug 2014 9:38 a.m. PST

…..hmmmmmm…..isn't 'Frothers' enough of a description/manifesto/declaration of intent, etc, so on and so fourth….that's all you SHOULD have to say 'about' them?

They have their opinions, we have ours. You have yours and I have mine and within the boundries of 'good taste'…(tastes great/less filling…ooops!)…can't we all just 'play nice'?

There's enough 'sandboxes' out there where folks CAN'T 'play nice'…..do we have to have a 'War of the Words' (heh-heh), here AND there?

Now, everybody back to the bar, next round's on MY tab and I want to hear about all those great Gen-Con stories…(and Mars Attacks, Counterblast…..Retro Raygun' etc!!)
Slishfully,
Sgt DWW-btod

It remains to be seen if that accomplishes anything, but you can bet the reverse will not be true.

Caesar18 Aug 2014 9:59 a.m. PST

I have not been spending much time on this, but the topics I have viewed on this ongoing animosity have not included links to Frothers that I've noticed, so I don't see how breaking links to that site is going to stop anyone from continuing to post about it.
There are, however, useful hobby-related sections on that site and it would be a shame to disallow anyone from sharing that, just as it would be a shame to disallow anyone to share anything that makes this community good.

If you are really tired of it, then refrain from posting about it and don't respond to people that do.

Worth noting that an awful lot of "them" are also "us". The crossover of members seems to be rather more than some might think.

It is always a good idea to ban things you don't like, works every time.

Well said thosmoss, or perhaps they are all just very naughty boys?

Might make an interesting poll question.

Yes I also very much enjoyed to hear different opinions on TMP; and I heard some opinions which are very different of mine, but in many cases (with a few exceptions) if was more interesting than really annoying for me. But I'm not really sure of what's happening now…

Flecktarn18 Aug 2014 12:13 p.m. PST

The Workers' Paradise seemed to exist to ban things that it did not like; try finding that country now:).

Technically, the NVA's helmets were banned under DDR law.

I don't see a question there Bill.

But I can imagine what you're thinking.

Cyclops18 Aug 2014 1:12 p.m. PST

Ahhh, a poll to flush us out! Sneaky.
Did I say us? I meant them, obviously.

Sergeant Paper18 Aug 2014 1:12 p.m. PST

To all of those above who get so overwrought about another website's pointless blathering section, I have only these words of wisodom from the interWebs, "If you find them troublesome, I'd suggest you stop finding them…"

At this point I don't care if the poster is homegrown or visitor, I am done listening to the bitching and whining. I'm turning off TMP Talk and Poll Suggestions and any other boards that succumb to this topic.

genew4918 Aug 2014 1:26 p.m. PST

Thanks for the clip warwell.

I have sock puppets???

Why does no one ever tell me these things?!?!…..

nevinsrip18 Aug 2014 11:03 p.m. PST

UGH! This again.

nazrat19 Aug 2014 6:29 a.m. PST

It's sad, really. A bunch of good guys over there and a bunch of good guys over here, and a small number of mooks who rabble rouse on both sides and make things worse for everybody.

Can't we just get along?

HORRIBLE idea for a poll, by the way.

galvinm19 Aug 2014 5:09 p.m. PST

I am a member of both sites. Do not post much on either (compared to some).

Do these flame wars gain anything in the end except feelings of animosity?

I used to visit TMP a couple of times a day, to see interesting information on a HOBBY. An enjoyable interlude from real life. Not as much fun as it has been. I have not painted a single figure in the last few weeks, and have come to realize, it is because I have had no inspiration. Which is apparently what I USED to get when visiting TMP and Frother's. LAF is the ONLY enjoyable website left to me now. Everyday when I pull up one of the others the flame wars cover the main page.

I just want to thank all those who have taken what used to be an enjoyable hobby and turned me away from it. I spend my time now watching documentary video's on youtube and Netflix instead. I may get banned/doghoused for this, but I have finally had enough. It is not like it matters anyway, as I no longer enjoy visiting these sites.

Carry on. I have said more than I care/wanted to on this subject.

Everyday when I pull up one of the others the flame wars cover the main page.

Where are you looking? None of today's topics on the main forum had anything to do with a flame war, and certainly none of the Hobby News stories… one of two polls mentioned Frothers, and was intended by the originator as a way to pacify the current tensions.

John the OFM19 Aug 2014 8:13 p.m. PST

Here I thought that "an interesting Poll suggestion" had to do with whether there were any who posted on both TMP and Frothers. grin

Personal logo Editor in Chief Bill The Editor of TMP Fezian19 Aug 2014 8:20 p.m. PST

Anyone remember this poll of yore? evil grin

I thought we had done "Are you a Frother?" once, but it's not in the database…
