I'm looking at playing TFL's 'Winterstorm' scenario supplement and the first scenario involves an attack on an unarmoured train. Are there any suggestions for a (hopefully inexpensive) 15mm scale train and 3-4 carriages :goods/passengers and/or flat (possibly more for use in other scenarios) |

You can use HO scale trains – they work well with 15mm. You might be able to find inexpensive cars and a nonworking engine (which will lower the price considerably) at local flea markets and such, or online even. |

Peter Pig makes a steam engine and cars in their Old West line. For a generic train, I think I would go with used HO pieces--you can get box and flat cars in my location for five bucks apiece. |

The old Ertl diecast Thomas the Tank engine trains work well in 15mm. |

Take a look at Paper Terrain: link Some armored trains here as a well as a few unarmored locomotives and wagons. link Also on page three of the above list you'll find a train station that may be perfect for Scenario 2 of Winterstorm, "Kotelnikovo Station, 27th November 1942" (by the way on 11/27/42, on the other side of the world, my father turned 24. He was stationed in Maryland at that time being trained as a forward observer.) |

I will second what genew49 said, particularly the bestpapermodels train and station…it is exactly what I used for winterstorm. I will be posting a blog aar of that scenario very soon (within the next couple of days) if you want to see how it looks. |

I've seen some 1/87 scale plastic model kits of the German steam locomotives from Revell. They are a little bit big for 15mm, but usually look close enough once you base the minis. |

The paper terrain train set looks great, as do the paper models. I like the look of the Revell models but at least here in Oz at first glance, they appear a bit pricy: a loco alone costs more than the complete paper terrain train. Sadly, I'm only going to be using this rarely, so spending a lot (time or money) is not really on the cards. Thanks for all the help and I'm looking forward to the battle report. |
