I was working on my trenches and I came up with the idea of combining some of the left over gun casemates from the plastic tank models with the trenches. I could see that in the rush to get the MK III steam tanks into production the manufacture of the guns and the armor might well outstrip the manufacture of the much more complicated chassis and engines. The result being that a lot of guns and armored casemates might be lying around waiting for tanks to mount them on. But the war being as desperate as it is, there was no sense in leaving perfectly good guns and casemates lying around in warehouses when they could be blasting Martians! So, I could see them being used as isolated pillboxes (as some other players have done) or being incorporated into other defensive works. Like this:

picture

Creating these was fairly simple. First I took a section of trench and cut it into 1" sections.

Then I cut off one side of the trench, even with the floor.

Next I assembled the casemates and guns leftover from the tank models.

Then I attached them to the trench pieces using some Green Stuff. The casemates are produced angling somewhat downward so I built up the front a little and pressed some railroad gravel into the face to match the resin trench.

After that it was a matter of priming and painting them.

They fit in with the other trench pieces perfectly.

So would this be classified futuristic or interpretive?

Curufea18 Aug 2014 5:56 p.m. PST

Classified by whom?

If it helps, it's an alternate history setting, using the classic two words "what if?"

Great conversion, that works perfectly.

heck, those trenches with a armored "pill box" could be used for WWI and later. I received those with my first wave box, they were free, and everything anyone has mentioned about them is true. I just haven't had the time to start on them, but looking forward.

Alien Dungeon presented a wall with mounted defense turrets for their Battle of Memphis Scenario at Historicon, probably Gencon as well. That wall with its batteries looked like a really good scratch build. Here, the use of the extra casemates is smart. Nicely documented. In my first game at home the trench lines were lit up by the Greenadier Tripods tossing in Black Dust attacks from over fifty inches away.

Have started reading Wells' book. In Chapter XII "What I Saw of the Destruction of Weybridge and Shepperton", Wells describes a tripod takedown with a direct artillery hit right in the faceplate.
