I posted a similar topic on the ACW board regarding Longstreet, but I'm curious as to how it applies to Lasalle as well. I know that there isn't a required basing method for Lasalle, as long as everything is consistent, but I've never played a 15mm Napoleonic game before, so I'm not really sure where to start. How do you guys base your 15mm Napoleonic miniatures for Lasalle? Do you use basing that can also be used in other games, or do you base specifically for Lasalle? Do you have any recommendations or suggestions?

I'm looking for information on base size as well as number of figures per base, and how many ranks you have on a base as well. I've thought of potential schemes with anything from 4 to 8 miniatures per base (although in reality I'd probably like to keep it to 4 or 6. 8 per base seems like a lot.)

How about cavalry? 2 or 3 per base or even more?

I'm open to a variety of suggestions, and if you have pictures that is even better! Thanks a lot for any input!

infantry is 4 bases (40mm x 30mm) of 8 figures per battalion, cavalry is three to a base 4 bases to a regiment. i base one gun and crew (40mm x 40mm) 2 guns per battery

I base all my 15mm 2 figures per 20mm x 15mm metal stand. Then cut sheet magnet to size for whatever rules I'm playing.

I like to hop from rules set to rule set as each have their pros and cons. I never thought one rule set would be my "favorite."

I'd been planning on Flames of War medium bases, 30x50mm. Conveniently, this let me use FoW 60x50mm Large bases for artillery and cavalry.

But I got sidetracked by the idea of 3mm minis and battalions of 500+ models.

It depends on who you plan to play with? If you plan to paint both sides it really does not matter. I put mine on 1" square bases with 6 figures per base. I thought that the suggested base sizes required too many figures and the figures looked too spread out. I prefer a more crowded look. Do what you feel happy with. The system does not consider how many figures you place on a base so you have considerable latitude.

The rules allow either 6 or 8 infantry on a 40 x 30mm base.
4 bases of 6 looks good, but 4 bases of 8 looks better. Some units can be 6 bases strong, and with 8 on a base that looks formidable on the tabe. 48 highlanders in kilts with proper flags, pipers, drummers and officers does look imposing.

I have spent the last 3 years rebasing my Napoleonics to this size, and am nowhere near finished.

Hi Hordini,

I don't know whether you have seen it but there is a basing guide on the Lasalle website. PDF link

It includes diagrams of commonly used base sizes along with suggestions of how best to adapt them to Lasalle and the other games in Sam Mustafa's 'Honour' series (so it works for Longstreet as well)
