Hi there!

Does anyone have a picture or description of the flag used by the Bavarian Hartischiere guard cavalry during the WSS?

I would be very grateful for any help with this!

That unit is one of the Bavarian plates in the series by Robert Hall sold through the Pike & Shotte Society in the UK. I have it, and I can say there is no standard or guidon on the plate, nor for the Leibguard squadron either. Sounds as though nobody has found any details for them.

Thanks SM, I have looked and looked and found nothing!

I will just have to make my own, at least no-one will be able to say its 'wrong'!

White field, lots of heavy silver embroidery and fringes. Maybe a Virgin Mary on one side, maybe an 'ME' cypher in silver on a blue/white shield on the other, or a ducal orb and sceptre.
Conjecture I'm afraid but all the above would be common elements of Bavarian heraldry and flag design of the period.
In the absence of anything more precise from better informed authorities- you'd not be too far wrong.

If it's any help the Grenadiere zu Pferde squadron had a blue (yes, THAT blue!) triangular guidon as a guide to shape.

Regarding emblems, as seneffe suggests there were "common" motiffs on the flags of other regiments. The Grenadiere zu Pferde had exploding grenades on one side, and a large rock and lightning bolts on the other. It's possible they also had a white CO's colour, but given that the Colonel of the household cavalry squadrons was the King, they might have also had leib standards with royal, and/or religious motifs; the same would have applied to the Hartschiere and Karabiniere squadrons (the latter not to be confused with the Prince Philip Karabiniere formed after Blenheim).

Just found this and thought it might be useful to anyone else asking the same question:-
