So picked up a few of these at the junk store and now thinking of what to do with them.

picture

The paper stand-in figure it's self is 17mm tall the rest is taller as you can see.

there's a couple more photos here, link

Squad sized drop pod or for small light vehicle

Bashytubits14 Aug 2014 11:42 p.m. PST

Alien buildings or power generators.

AVAMANGO14 Aug 2014 11:52 p.m. PST

Come on that has just got to be a drop pod of some sort with that classic egg shape and molded on thrusters, maybe a HALO pod for a battle armour assault team or even a lone mech curled up inside.

Bore-worm hive? Teleport pod? Space dreadnought hull? Sandworm proboscis? Zardoz egg?

witteridderludo15 Aug 2014 2:14 a.m. PST

this just screams "drop pod"

The drop pod makes the most sense.

Escape pod, particularly for 28mm?
In the photo, it looks like there is a column of light in the center of the top piece. I realize this is just a reflection, but the column of light thing makes me think of a very long range com device for talking to the home planet (or the great old ones). Half a dozen members of the invasion force/away team/acolytes gather around to hear/see/sense the message from afar. Perhaps mounting a transparent yellow plastic tube vertically would enhance the flickering light column thing.

If you separate the halves, it looks like the bottom could be flipped over to make an interesting underground base/house, with just that portion visible above ground.

I'm seeing a drop pod or the top of a martian tripod. I'd certainly embrace the smooth dome shape, not putting a bunch of greebles all over it. I might score a few subtle panel lines, but that's it for the top. I would add lots of greebles on the bottom, maybe in contrast to the dome.

These are great ideas, I didn't think of a vehicle drop pod, and I didn't think of a silver UFO either.

I did think of it being a squad size drop pod, and I thought of it as a 5 or 6 person escape pod with long term supplies, food, water and additional shelter.

I thought about a long term habitat as well, could be alien as well.

Thanks keep the ideas coming, I have about a dozen of these so I have room to try most of them and then some.

It has a button on the bottom for a LED light that changes colors, so I plan to take it out to be used for something else.

If you go for using them as a dozen squad-sized drop/escape pods, and you have the figures, a survival scenario immediately suggests itself.

Colonial troops en route to a far-off interstellar war are in deep cold sleep in their drop pods when their AI shipmind deploys them to a wild, "uninhabited" planet far from the front, of no seeming strategic value, and abandons them there, without giving them further orders. The fierce alien beasts which haunt the years-long nights of the strange world hunt them endlessly. They try, vainly, to maintain perimeters around their widely-dispersed escape pods, until the few scattered survivors decide to rally and launch an offensive.

It's a whole campaign and Saturday morning cartoon in one.

War Monkey15 Aug 2014 9:38 a.m. PST

That's a great idea!!

I did want to make one as a escape pod with one sole survivor, who's only companions are a couple of robots, he made himself. :)

normsmith15 Aug 2014 10:42 a.m. PST

As the items are low cost, I would be tempted to hack one down and model it as a crashed and damaged pod.

It reminds me of one of the original Battletech dropships!

Lion in the Stars15 Aug 2014 1:08 p.m. PST

Yup, Classic Battletech spheroidal dropship.

Infinity terrain , add a lightsource inside , and you have a unique glowing street lamp!

I have them occasionally.

Actually, I really like your idea.

Colonial conscript-slash-Robinson Crusoe, alone on a harsh alien world, accompanied only by the two homemade robots who continually manage to thwart his best efforts, must visit each of the widely scattered and potentially destroyed drop/escape/assault/deployment pods to attempt to recover useful gear and supplies, while trying to unlock the mystery of why his AI ship abandoned him and the rest of his company here, and desperately searching for other survivors, to help him get off this forsaken rock, while fighting off an insane array of fierce and fearsome alien beasts, hungering for his blood.

War Monkey15 Aug 2014 4:59 p.m. PST

Yes! That's it!

I know who has just the right figures, for the lone survivor and his robot friends.

tkdguy16 Aug 2014 11:58 p.m. PST

Drop pod, retro spaceship, domed alien city, lots of possibilities with that thing.

panzersaurkrautwerfer17 Aug 2014 5:09 a.m. PST

It also wouldn't be a bad warhead for a very large missile or something capital ship launched. I'd think a planet cracker sized bomb might make a good objective to fight over.

"Alien popcorn machine" says the lady standing next to me.

War Monkey17 Aug 2014 7:14 p.m. PST

An "Alien Popper" Hum but I did think it would be made for popcorn :O
