Just had the frames through of the second Roman set in pectoral armour. We could not resist sticking a few together and taking some quick photos of them. The detail on these has come out brilliantly (not done justice by my camera and the poor lighting conditions outside I might add!)

I have also just finished 14 sheets of shield transfers for the legionaries. More will be added soon.

We will have test frames of the Italians by the end of next week we have been informed by SK so I will keep you posted.

Is there an option to build all these in a standing pose (weapon's upright)?

STEVE LBMS14 Aug 2014 2:07 p.m. PST

Yes there is.

Regards,

Steve.

Brilliant!

What are the long term plans for this range Steve? Will we have Cavalry, Gauls, Spanish, Numidians or Elephants?

French Wargame Holidays14 Aug 2014 2:23 p.m. PST

Nice!

We do have big plans for the Punic wars. It is such a great period to do as you have so many varying troop types and nationalities in the conflict that can springboard into other wars and can be used in later time periods.

Spanish, Numidians and Gauls are all on the cards. Our Sculptor is nearing completion of the Carthaginans which will be Veterans, Libyan spearmen and Libyan javelin men.

We will have to make some cavalry as they feature heavily in Carthaginian and Roman armies but you won't see any this year as we have the Carthaginian infantry to get out.

Lots of people have asked for Elephants. We will just have to sit down and do the maths to see if it is viable. It would be great to get them out in plastic but we want to ensure we keep a roof over our heads at the same time!:o)

Well it truly is a golden age of war game miniatures.

Grunt186114 Aug 2014 8:33 p.m. PST

IMHO some well sculpted Hellenistic period elephants with optional kit, (so as to be able to represent various nations) in plastic, would not only keep the roof over your head, but would allow you to purchase several new ones.

;)

I've ordered a box on Sunday, I can't wait to have a look at them in the flesh..
If they are as good as I hope they are I will start a massive punic war project!
And yes, that would include several elephants :-)

Hope you will send them out soon!

Cheers

Hi SP,

Orders will start going out on Monday. Had hoped to receive stock on Thursday but the factory needed to get set 1 levels up before sending them to us. Patrick our new packing guy will be sending everything out as soon as he can on Monday.

I don't think you will be disappointed by these figures. Myself and Julian think these are possibly the sharpest and most highly detailed sets we have made to date, The mail, the faces, feathers, wolf pelts, belt buckles, hands and cloth folds have all come out really crisp with lots of depth. Quite quick to stick together as well. I have just stuck 48 together this morning for some unpainted unit shots. The Velites look fantastic with so many positional variations that the whole 16 man unit has no replicated figures.

I did note you disappointment on Steve Dean SP about the late release time for these sets. There is nothing we can do about it sometimes. Once everything is in the hands of the toolmakers they work to the beat of their own drum. They are out now thank goodness and well worth the wait!

Sorry to come across as inpatient Steve but I am drooling over this flyer you handed me at Salute ever since..I've got two weeks off currently, the paints are ready and the brushes sharpened. Nothing else I fancy painting more than your stalwart Republican Romans..!!

Man I can't wait now..

Cheers

I'd love to buy some, but I've imposed a set of restrictions upon myself due to the large amount of unpainted stuff I've collected the past couple years.

Basically, I don't get to start a new period until I've painted all the current Caesarian/Celtic stuff I currently have. It's given me the onus I've needed to get cracking and finish up these little Bleeped texts. grin

But they DO look lovely and this will give me time to rad all the reviews and set up a shopping list for later on.

Just stuck up a few unit shots on the news page of the website. If you follow the link you can see 16 in mail, 16 in pectoral armour and 16 Velites.

Possibly a silly question but seeing as I like Victrix and its designs – how well would these sit as cesarian romans? good fit?

Suetonius Paullinus16 Aug 2014 4:26 a.m. PST

The ones in mail without the feathers would fit the bill. Only the greaves will look outdated, in late Republican Rome that was privilege of the officers as far as I'm aware.

as we will have to wait for cavalry, can anyone suggest a range that will provide cavalry that match size (and to a lesser extent) stylistically with these?

Keen to know, now I've ordered 3 boxes of them… 8^)

Mars Ultor16 Aug 2014 10:31 a.m. PST

@Bindon: By far the best range of Republican cav is Aventine, IMO. They look even better in the hand than they do in the picture. I have one Roman unit of Aventine and one mostly of Crusader, and the Aventine is by far the better. Definitely worth the money. I also have two units of Allied cavalry (same figs as their Late Etruscan cav), and they also look fantastic if you want Italian non-chainmail armor. I'm not a huge fan of Aventine's spears – I ordered a bunch of Greek type spears from First Corps, and they work very well.

Royston Papworth17 Aug 2014 2:27 a.m. PST

Thanks Mars. I'll look at Aventine…

Just received an email saying the legionaries in mail haven't arrived at store yet, maybe Wednesday….so cruel :-(

Hi SP,

After Patrick sent that email out the factory got in touch saying they were sending him some Roman set 1's for delivery tomorrow. So fingers crossed and the couriers do their job Romans will go out tomorrow.
The confusion arose with producing set 1's due to the Italian allied Legion tooling being finished sooner than expected. They were testing the tool which was fine and then left them in production before putting the number 1's in the press. So a couple of days extra to wait for the Romans in mail but the good news is the Italian allied legions will be on sale in the next day or so as they have stocks sorted for them already.
I am getting frames of the Italians tomorrow and will get some photos done as soon as I can.

Best regards,

Steve.

Suetonius Paullinus18 Aug 2014 9:47 a.m. PST

Italian Allies so soon?!?! Hooray! (my poor wallet..)
I'm dying to get my hands in those legionaries though, I'm obsessed since I've seen the frames. Now the postie thinks I've got a crush on him as well because I wait for him at the door each day- awkward. I'll give him a rest till Wednesday then and be keeping my fingers crossed ;-)

Cheers

I have been exactly the same running to the window like an expectant dog waiting for the test frames to turn up last week.
I am looking forward to seeing some of your photos on Steve dean once you get them.
