Seeing as I had all the plasticard out on the table last night I cracked on and tried out some ideas on the M113A3.

I carved off all the detail on the rear of the hull and also carved the track guards to a vertical surface. I also sanded out the side of the track guard. This allowed a better fit of a template for the fuel tanks which I made up sufficient for two models before starting the assembly.

I added a new antenna mount and also put some blanking plates (in the wrong place :) ) on the top of the hull

Fuel caps added and again the Road to Baghdad scenario book has the vehicles fitted with the ACAV kits which makes life a bit easier. I still haven't decided how to add the rear light fittings yet so they will be done later (if at all ;).

Still need baggage and markings to be thought through. As I can make my own it should be straight forward but need to work out what I need

Model has been undercoated black and I will see if I can give it a coat of Tamiya XF-59 later and do some side by side shots with the earlier M1064A3 that I knocked up.

awesome work! I have been convert my M113 into the IDF ones used during the 73 war.

CAG 1913 Aug 2014 4:09 a.m. PST

Like that a lot. The BF M113 kit has a lot of potential. I have another one being used as a M125 for my 1982 IDF which will need some treatment to it. As BF make the hull kit on a separate sprue to the weapons and fittings It might not be too far for them to add a newer accessory sprue to cover a range of uses.

What did u use for the exhaust extension ?

The exhaust extension is #48 guitar string.

Nice work !!!! We [the Mech Bns] had M113A2s, the only A3s we had were with the Bde TOC … But that was way, way back in '86-'90, with the now deactivated 197th Mech(SEP)Bde …

CAG 1913 Aug 2014 8:05 a.m. PST

Base coat added. I am happy with how the fuel tanks have come out on this one compared to the bodge on the M1064A3 yesterday so I think this will be way ahead on the last two I have to do for the US Army and I will probably do the same on the IDF M125 I have to finish as well.

Loved the ACAV turret, we had them in the ROK … But didn't have them for our M113s stateside. Couldn't even order them. I guess we'd get them once deployed overseas/in country (!?) …

They really look nice.

They still look way to clean so I have some baggage curing in the airing cupboard as well as ordering some items from The Scene. They need highlighting, basing and antennas to finish so this will probably take a while as I keep getting distracted
