"To create its first blue-water navy, China plans to construct a total of 10 domestic aircraft carriers according to the Kanwa Defense Review, a Chinese-language military magazine operated by Andrei Chang also known as Pinkov, a military analyst from Canada.

After Admiral Jonathan Greenert, the US chief of naval operations, visited China's first aircraft carrier, the Liaoning, a refitted Soviet-era carrier purchased from Ukraine, the blueprint of the nation's first domestic carrier is nearly complete, according to Kanwa. Greenert said China is speeding up the construction of its second aircraft carrier and even predicted the vessel will enter service in the near future…"

Well, this is somewhat good news. This means the current leadership is putting off WW III until 2040 or so. They are actually developing their armed forces for world wide parity vice regional parity.

It will be interesting to see how many Chinese sailors die trying to learn carrier operations the hard way.

Though I'm still not going to worry about China starting things until they can make jet engines that last at least 400 hours (like the Russian designs).

Assuming current CVBG costs, including escorts, aircraft, and unrep, isn't that about a $1 USD-1.5 Trillion commitment on a defense budget running, in total, about $200 USD billion ($132 official plus 'other' expenditures)?

I'm not seeing the math working.

They can pay for these by just calling in their loans to the USA. Or maybe just calling the equivalent in aircraft carriers from the US.

China has $1.3 USD Trillion in US Treasuries. As the saying generally goes 'Borrow $100 USD and they own you, borrow $1,000,000 USD and you own them."

The Chinese owe about as much to the US (from pre-WW2 debts, actually!) as they hold US Treasury bonds.

So the US can simply say, "fine, we will write off the debt you owe us and we're even."

I suspect they can build a lot of stuff with inexpensive labor.

Of course, construction quality will be a major concern.

It may take some time to built that many CVs. Along with enough escort, support ships etc., that make up a CV TF … And it's another thing if they know how to use them in combat …

It will never happen. China will fall apart from internal revolt before a third of the carriers are built. Look at Chinese history over the last 1000 years and that will tell the future.
