Recently watched Generation War on Netflix and thought it was a pretty good war movie.

I'm guessing it was made in Germany? since the actors speak german and Russian with English sub-titles at the bottom.

The story follows five friends in Berlin 1941 and their plans to all meet up for Christmas. Well I won't spoil the movie for you but needless to say they don't all meet up again until 1945.

Yeah, it was a German film, the German title being "Our Mothers, Our Fathers."

It was pretty well done, I thought. From a uniform nut, they did a great job of differing the uniforms from the 1941 to 1945 progression. They did a lot of things right, and in my opinion were fairly honest with the story.

I just purchased it at Historicon from Belle and Blade.

I really enjoyed the story line. Some points of history were compressed (ie: mid-41 talk about the race laws, those went into effect in mid-30s), but over all a really well done mini-series.

Uniforms, weapons right on target.

Good acting and good plot.

I liked it as well.

There were a number of "Hollywood"(*) bits to the show but I liked it. I did notice that the Russians fired two Panzerfausts at the Germans during the Kursk operation, well if Indiana Jones had access to one before the war I suppose the Russians could have intercepted one of the first shipments out to the Germans in the field.

(*) – I don't know what the German equivalent of Hollywood is called.

The movie is quite grim, reminiscent of Downfall's tone. Battle scenes quite Hollywood, not as authentic as Band of Brothers. Overall worth a watch.
