My G.A.S.L.I.G.H.T. card project has entered a new phase. I'm redesigning them to be professionally printed like a real deck of cards.

To that end, I've tried to work out the kinks and produce a set that's generic enough for anyone to use, but can be easily customized to include just about anything.

These samples should illustrate the many options available.

I included the "standard" weapons that Main Characters and troops would be issued, but if you're fielding a unit with some kind of crazy, Victorian Super Weapon, just use one of these:

Troop units have stats for both troops, and NCOs. Heavy Weapon and Artillery crews CAN, but they can also be paired with an Officer of their own.

I completely redesigned the Vehicle card, giving each trait a nice big icon.

Crew, Start, Sustain, Spin, Speed, Shoot, Scuffle and Save.

Vehicle cards display no weapons, to keep them nice and interchangeable. They can be outfitted with weapons like the Mounted Flamethrower.

And like Heavy Weapon crews, Vehicles get separate Commander cards.

And here's the card back

I'm going to add Martians, Robots, and a whole slew of other units, as well as Scenario and Secret Objective cards.

Near as I can tell, a full deck will cost around $12 USD to $15 USD each, and less the more that get ordered.

What do you guys think? Are they easy to read? To understand? Are they missing anything?

Any feedback is helpful.

SpaceNinja-
Another beautiful effort!
However, if you plan to sell them, we'd appreciate if you would contact us.

SpaceNinjaJetPilot12 Aug 2014 2:14 p.m. PST

PMs sent.

Sorry for the confusion. This whole thing is just something to while away the hours here in Cyprus.

The price point is just an estimation of what it would cost to have a single deck printed up, were anyone so inclined.

I think they are useful. I hope these get approved by the game authors.

What sort of format do you have these in? I'd love to take these as a starting point and print up cards for my ACW troops.

SNJP, I suspect they're as much concerned about the G.A.S.L.I.G.H.T. on the back as anything.

I add my congratulations to your noble effort while 'exiled'. If only the little corporal could have been as inventive. ;->=

but if you're fielding a unit with some kind of crazy, Victorian Super Weapon, just use one of these:

As the pertinent info is on the lower half of the card, you can slide them halfway under the unit card. Kewl!

*ahem* Bully!

So what would folks think if Space Ninja were to make National themed decks with Main Characters, Units, Crews, Weapons, and Vehicles all in a single deck by Nation. So, for example you could buy a British deck or a Prussian Deck and each deck would have everything a player would need to set up a force. Sound like something folks would be interested in?

TheBeast Supporting Member of TMP13 Aug 2014 8:16 a.m. PST

Sounds smashing to me; Sir Randall must get rather tired of rolling/writing up lists, and he'll be the first to admit he's always forgetting something.

I'd love to take these as a starting point and print up cards for my ACW troops.

Obviously, there would need to be some flexibility, if only with 'extra', maybe DIY, special cards.

I also think you'd need some 'generic unwashed' decks, with pick-and-chose leadership.

Most of our games have one or more sides of 'indigenous in noble struggle against the evil oppressors…' Often shoulder to shoulder with other evil oppressors, of course.

You really think you can get enough cards per faction for a 'deck'?

Doug

SpaceNinjaJetPilot13 Aug 2014 8:35 a.m. PST

For sure. I've come up with about 50 cards each for the British and German decks.

Most of them are generic rank and file units. A couple infantry, a couple cavalry, some vehicles, some "faction-specific" weapons, etc. The "Extras" are covered.

I will POSSIBLY be able to accommodate players who want cards made with their own Main Characters, but each faction deck will come with generic officer cards to be paired with Vehicles or Gun Crews.

I don't normally say this, and I do hope Buck and Co are on board too. (Always prefer an amalgamation of ideas than a EE trampling) ah! What was I saying? Oh! Put me down for a set SpaceNinja, a splendid set-up and I do like the 'add+on' cards, Absolutely Spiffy. Ice old boy? Hem?

PS please keep us all in the loop.
Cheers and happy gaming.

I would like to take a kind of basic card to which I could then add my own picture and stats. Also, I prefer to have the weapon stats on the same card as the vehicles.

And you would be using one of those companies where you can print your own playing cards?

SpaceNinjaJetPilot13 Aug 2014 9:11 p.m. PST

I'm going to do ACW decks as well. (U.S. and C.S.)

Guthroth14 Aug 2014 3:43 a.m. PST

Hope this comes off. Have you considered criticising to get pre orders ?

SpaceNinjaJetPilot14 Aug 2014 4:12 a.m. PST

Criticising?

Guthroth14 Aug 2014 6:24 a.m. PST

D a m n a u t o f I l l.

I meant C r o w d f u n d I n g.

SpaceNinjaJetPilot14 Aug 2014 6:41 a.m. PST

I haven't planned that far ahead, but I would love to have an idea of how many people would go in on a set.

Guthroth14 Aug 2014 7:23 a.m. PST

Assuming Buck gives the ok, I would be interested in British and German set.

TheBeast Supporting Member of TMP14 Aug 2014 8:21 a.m. PST

And Martians, and Cythereans, and fauna, and, and, and,

*taking slow, deep breathes, in and out of a brown paper bag*

What do you guys think? Are they easy to read? To understand? Are they missing anything?

Somebody REALLY should be answering these questions…

Doug

AetherEngineer14 Aug 2014 8:28 a.m. PST

I would be in for a british and american deck.

Chris Palmer14 Aug 2014 9:17 a.m. PST

Just to clarify, Buck and I have worked out a business arrangement with SpaceNinja. So, the project has been green-lighted from our end. Now is the time to express your interest, and any comments you may have on the direction these cards take.

Guthroth14 Aug 2014 9:59 a.m. PST

I'm very interested. I do however think each deck needs a number of semi blank cards (no stats) to allow customisation. Especially character cards. I'd probably spring for 3 sets. British, German and Tribal/Mahdist. And as I said earlier, I'd look at crowdfunding. (Kickstarter etc.)

tsofian17 Aug 2014 9:01 a.m. PST

Some of the art work looks like its from The Mummy. Not to pick a nit here but that would be copyright protected.

SpaceNinjaJetPilot17 Aug 2014 9:22 a.m. PST

That's a good catch, tsofian. Originally, I was using clips from quite a few movies.

The only real hurdle left is generating some original art. Stay tuned.

Chris Palmer17 Aug 2014 9:41 a.m. PST

Yes, one of the first things we discussed with Space Ninja was the necessity to replace the art.

J Womack 9418 Aug 2014 3:56 p.m. PST

Very interesting. I'd probably buy at least one pack, just to see how I liked them. Most likely British or German.

If you need art, would photos of painted miniatures work? Or would that be copyright infringement against the sculptors?

SpaceNinjaJetPilot18 Aug 2014 9:16 p.m. PST

I'm pretty sure that violates copyright laws.

AetherEngineer19 Aug 2014 2:46 a.m. PST

As long as the sculpor/painter gave permision it would be fine. Basically if no body goes after you then you have permission. I.e. the governmemt is not going to on someone's behalf.
