…Astra Militarium? Oooookay! Nice to see you can still get the older IG models like the Iron Legion. And yes they are a bit pricey. Waxing nostalgic for the Imperial Guard having recently started playing 40K again using the 5th Edition rules. |
haywire | 11 Aug 2014 5:51 p.m. PST |
yep, they did that a couple months back after they lost the case for saying "Space Marine" belonged to them. |
Pizzagrenadier | 11 Aug 2014 6:29 p.m. PST |
*cough* Armageddon Steel Legion *cough* Sorry, channeling my 40k fluff pedant. By the way, you can still get the Steel Legion on the GW website. I picked up a bunch this year because I'm feeling that same nostalgia. Been using Disposable Heroes conversion for bigger battles and Point Blank conversion for Rogue Trader style scenario RPG style games. |

@ Iron Ivan Keith , Care to share your ideas for Sci Fi version of DH ? I have been thinking along similar lines as my group is quite fond of DH and it would be an easy transition for some of the WW2 players in the group to play some of the Sci Fi games ive always wanted to play cheers Tom |

Bad Latin™ can indeed be trademarked and copyrighted, apparently. I guess they could not get a trademark on Imperial Guard™, because of a certain short Frenchy guy. |
kallman | 11 Aug 2014 8:00 p.m. PST |
Sorry Keith yes I meant to say Steel Legion.(shakes head in shame at his lack of geek cred) And I agree with thabear I would like to see the Sci-Fi version of DH. @John the OFM wonder if they could use Pig Latin instead. |

I wouldn't be surprised if GW tried to sue Napoleon, France, and history because they used their creation. |
15mm and 28mm Fanatik | 11 Aug 2014 10:21 p.m. PST |
I still call them the 'Imperial Guard.' For the same reason I don't call the Space Marines 'Adeptus Astartes.' |
Zargon | 12 Aug 2014 1:58 a.m. PST |
Yes 28mm Fanatik, Rouge Trader original all the way, In the Emperors Name looks good now if they can expand it slightly to make 20-30 figure a side games or a cleaned up version of RT 3rd ed I think we're all would get the lads out of mothballs. Cheers and "For the Emperor" |

Half of my GW guard figures have "Imperial Army" stamped on the tab, so it's not the first name change anyway. |

Went to the store and asked the guy if they have the new imperial guard figures in stock… "silence" I left… |

Thabear and Kallman: I'm on vacation, but when I get back, I'll throw some stuff together for a blog post. I've really been enjoying going back to my roots in the Imperium for both painting and gaming. It's a nice change of pace from years of historicals. I'm working on Orks and Steel Legion and several friends are working on other forces. It's nice to game the universe with a rules set I know and like with non competitive friends more interested in a good game with a good narrative. It's been a real blast. We did a really intense and fun game of a Blackhawk Down scenario using the crashed Aquila lander with Guard holding out against Orks waiting for a squad of Crimson Fists scouts to drop in and rescue a downed Astropath. |

Under any name, I still really like the Imperial guard. It's now too expensive to buy new A box of 20 plastic guardsmen used to be $20 USD bucks. Now it's $29 USD for 10!! That's nearly a 3x increase! I refuse to buy 7th edition, but I've got all my 100+ Guardsmen army and if the mood strikes, I've got plenty of Guard stuff on hand that I could paint up if I want. I'm slowly painting up a Squat auxillary as well. As to the name itself, I think this is the third itteration. as DK&BD points out. Not really a huge change though, as they mention IG in all material promoting the Astra Mili-something-or-other. |
EvilBen | 12 Aug 2014 11:32 a.m. PST |
Still the Imperial Army to me, too. 'Highly trained and, usually, well equipped and led.' Still, I suppose it was only a matter of time; marines were always 'adeptus astartes' and judges always 'adeptus arbites' and those are terrible cod Latin too. |
Griefbringer | 12 Aug 2014 11:36 a.m. PST |
I guess they could not get a trademark on Imperial Guard™, because of a certain short Frenchy guy. I think that there have been Imperial Guardsmen occasionally around for centuries before the short French guy showed up, way back to the ancient times. |

I have always been a Chaos Marine player but having gone back to playing using the 5th edition rules recently and actually having fun I have considered having a Guard army. I have about a small platoons worth at the moment but will make use of the the second hand market to expand the force over time. Kieth I am eager to see the Disposable Heroes version for Science Fiction. Kim |
