I got the 2nd ed rule book and liked the flavor of it. I passed it around to some club members who also liked it and are planning some purchases. How does it work as a multi player game ? We usually have 5 or 6 guys at our games. What is your favorite faction ? Is the 2nd or the 1st better for multi player play? |

1st edition colonial / settlers – the African Reactionary Settlers Expedition is one of my oldest wargames armies, and still gets outings from time to time. :-) Can't recall having played it with multiple armies, but it ought to work, with the usual caveat for IGOUGO rules that you need to watch out for people getting bored waiting for their turn. |

1st ed, with the SudoCom (very much an African concept ;) lip service to socialism with the big man living and acting like most of Africa's leadership, my guy even is uniformed to look like a 'true' General with lots of scrambled egg and medals. |

2e Israeli Defense Forces, though the Professional Force is a close second. I obviously need to read more of Murphy's Bongolesia stories to get a good grasp on the appropriate gallows humor, in addition to chasing down a good history of Israeli military conflicts. |

I've played more of the 1st edition ..now some time ago , and only really played 2nd edition twice.. but I love it's (their) simplicity for what it does …hard to say . Both "fun" .. …Favourite army ? … the one I'm working on next ! … 'Religious Movement army' ..with Arab theme . My original army was the 'Superpower Client Army', complete with CIA bodyguards,….then 'Peoples Popular Front army '…complete with Rik Mayal-esque dedication to the proletariat. Both heaps of fun. |

I just picked up the first edition PDF a few days ago, and am waiting on the rest of my initial orders of supplies to arrive. I'm supplying both sides since I don't have a particular opponent. One side is classed as a Religious Movement. The other side is classified as a People's Popular Front (Nationalist), which is a little weird because it's actually the national government. Part of me would like to make it a dictatorship to get the one professional unit, but after looking over the political charts, People's Popular Front gives a series of events that better fits my vision of the backstory of the unit than dictatorship. The basic setting is my little country of once-divided tribes, conquered by some European settlers, who were united to throw out the settlers and gain independence after a long period of European rule. The great unifier became President for life of the new country, supported by a council formed of all the tribal chieftains. When he died, his son assumed the position, and was as popular as his father….but then he died without a clear heir. As the council of chieftains was considering what to do, the leader of a popular cult suddenly declared a vision naming one of his own subordinates as the reincarnation of the original unifier and called his supporters to arms to place the reincarnated leader in the Presidency. The council of chieftains has naturally directed one of their generals to deal with the uprising. Thus, the Popular Front army is actually the national government's forces plus volunteers, descended from the original alliance that threw out the colonists. An original nationalist front that became the legitimate government and now has to deal with an uprising of its own. |
