Hello, I am looking for a Navy Blue primer spray suitable for Union troops and have noticed that the Army Painter Navy Blue has been discontinued. Can anyone suggest some other options, the only other one that I have found is Montana listed on the Wayland website but I haven't seen any reviews of them so am hesitant. Thanks in advance for your help. |

I ran into the same problem when they discontinued this color last year – I have 4 bottles I'm hoarding! I still don't understand the cancellation – it was the most useful of their blues by far and away, and none of the replacements are suitable for either Union in the ACW, French Napoleonics, or my son's Crimson Fists for that matter. If anyone can come up with a replacement (or change Army Painter's minds!) it would be great. |

I think Krylon makes a blue that is very close. Head over to a Home Depot or lowes and take a look at their spray can colors. You could also try Michaels or any of the other craft stores. Failing that, you could try air brush colors. |

Have you tried a flat black spray primer with a Union-blue drybrushing afterwards? I've found it effective on my 28mm AWI Continental figures. |

Rustoleum also works well as a primer so check to see what they have in blues. Lowe's and Home Despot both carry it, I believe. |

Just don't make the mistake i did and use gloss….. (if you do… a matte finish helps to correct the problem) |

Have you thought about just priming black and using a medium blue highlight on the coats and hats? You wouldn't have to paint the shoes, cartridge boxes, or bills on the forage hats! This is the method I used for cranking out hundreds of Union infantry. |
