Picking up the brushes again after the summer holiday.
First unit off the painting table is French Dragoons for my 1812 Borodino collection.

Painted as the Elite unit of the 7th Dragoons, and thus part of Grouchy's 3rd Cavalry Corps.

More pics and unit info on the blog:

Great painting and photography too! I do like to see conversions as well. Must save some of your pics to enhance my work on the Eclaireurs of the Garde…….the green and its shading is particularly well done. I have (and will still) learn a lot from this

Eagle pole…..blue…slightly darker than the flag blue.

Would the colonel not have had silver epaulettes and fringes?

Very nice Soren thumbs up

I see all these figures and games posted up here…look at my own stuff, and even with a lot of squinting…nah--not even close… :(

Do everyone's 28mm Naps look like these?

Meget fint arbejde. Vi er en dansk gruppe på Fyn som også spiller Black Powder.

Seeing your beautifully-painted Perry Miniatures makes me despair of my own humble painting skills.

Well done, and quite inspirational!

I'm sure if you ask nicely he'll tell you exactly how he achieves such a lovely finish.

It's not quite a bog standard 3up Dallimore style me thinks!

Do you add ink or penwork Soren?

Great brush work! Very impressive
I suggest, like Deadhead, to paint eagle pole in blue.

Yes,all Dragoon Officers would have silver epaulettes. Might need to repaint them.

Thank you all so very very much for your kind comments!

To Deadhead, VonBlucher and all the rest – the epaulettes need to be silver of course, not sure how I missed that, it's clear on all uniform plates. I'll blame it on the summer heat here in Scandinavia. However, I wasn't aware that the flag pole was suppose to be blue, so that was a nice new addition to the check list when painting. Thanks for keeping an eye on the details, when one uses so much time at painting the minis, one wants them to be at least historically correct.

Regarding the painting: I use a black undercoat, and keep a thin line of that where possible to separate color edges when painting the dark base colors. Then some base colors (The A's) from the Foundry Paint System. These are washed with Army Painters washes. Then I go to either the "B's" or "C's" in the Foundry system for highlighting. All is then coated with Army Painter's matt varnish. I'm using Kolinsky and LaVanche brushes, as these seem to keep the shape for a longer time, and it's easy to clean away excess paint at the brush root near the metal (Something that otherwise also deforms the brush)

@Nohrmann: Will you guys be at DefCon in Copenhagen this fall? We're a bunch of Swedish/Danish war-games planning a large game of Lund 1676 in 28mm!

Cheers,
Soren

Must again thank you for one of the most useful postings in a long time. The brushwork technique shows really well in your photos and the extra info on the paints used is helpful.

I remain inspired!
