A new theory of how the big-bang, and our universe was created:

I had to click two further links before I could find an article well-enough written on the topic for it to make sense… This one here, while more technical, does a better job of explaing what is actually going on with it all: link

Thank you for linking it, I needed to exorcise the ol' noggin today.

Mako1109 Aug 2014 4:33 p.m. PST

Thanks for the additional link.

I'll check it out.

What next: How many angels dance on the head of a pin?

The fact is, nobody can explain how the universe was created.

Black holes and God seem equally valid.

EJNashIII09 Aug 2014 7:50 p.m. PST

The difference being that most religions have their God tinkering (miracles, plagues, etc.) The Laws of Science only allow (at most) for a creator God who ignores the creation. Otherwise, the laws become suggestions rather than real scientific laws that must be followed.

Caesar09 Aug 2014 9:28 p.m. PST

Every application I have ever used allows admins access to perform exceptions to the normal rules that govern user interation with the system.

EJNashIII09 Aug 2014 9:40 p.m. PST

The difference here that a scientist (computer end user if you like) will occasionally see the rule broken (miracle). In science, the law or theory will no-longer exist as a law or theory at that point. So, to use the the computer analogy, if the admin changes anything at their end, it crashes at the end user terminal. The operating system becomes fatally unstable and goes blue screen. As Astronomy allows us to see back into time as well as far away. We can see the laws of physics doesn't change back to the big bang. Could the big bang be a blue screen? That is possible as the laws of physics could be different before that singularity. However, there is zero evidence for an alteration after that point.

This is why I stopped following astronomy and started following cryptozoology and folklore-THEY DON'T KEEP ME UP AT NIGHT!

KatieL10 Aug 2014 5:12 a.m. PST

Brilliant. Astronomy explained by the non-physicists to other non-physicists in terms of computing which doesn't look very much like the computing I use daily either.

I'm not sure I'm going to put much weight in the articles behind those links. The second one starts out with; "what are the limitations of the Big Bang theory? The singularity is one of them. Also, it's hard to predict why it would have produced a universe that has an almost uniform temperature"

Mmm. See, the explanation of an almost uniform temperature is that singularity. The contents of which cannot not have been in thermal equilibrium. The problem with big bang theory isn't why the temperature is uniform -- it's why it's not ENTIRELY uniform. (Asymmetries in some miniscule part of QCD was one line of theory that people were looking for proof of.)

And the first one, seriously? Ending with a hacky allegory to an allegory?

I have a hard enough time wrapping my brain around how inflation does not violate the speed of light. Let alone this.

I got to agree with Elmo … I watch a lot of shows on the Science Channel (NOT Bleeped text'n SyFy !!!!!) … by the time a show is over … I don't know Bleeped text to think !? huh? But it is better IMO, than just saying blindly it is a supreme supernatural being …. but I don't discount the possibility … either …

Dynaman878910 Aug 2014 10:06 a.m. PST

The problem with the big bang is that it does not describe where the singularity came from, since we can just barely see up to near the time of the big bang getting any information beyond it is not yet possible (may never be possible).

From the first linked site I love the bit about the theory saying handles the idea of the singularity – by introducing a whole nother universe – so where did THAT one come from?

Patrick R10 Aug 2014 11:49 a.m. PST

Inflation is like a rubber road with a speed limit. The speed limit only applies to objects on the road, but if you give the road a tug and stretch it fast, past the speed limit, the rule stands.

Right. grin

Mobius10 Aug 2014 2:08 p.m. PST

This was an article in this month's Scientific American. The problem I see is that it just shifts the physics to a 4-D universe. So how did that start? Was there a 5-D universe the gave rise to the 4-D universe? And a 6-D universe to start that off. And so on.

Look on the bright side, as long is there is a mystery someone will go looking for an answer.

I'll wait for Leonard to explain it to Penny.

Good point Norrins ! If anyone can explain it Leonard could and put it in terms Penny would understand ! evil grin Of course the actors that play Sheldon, Penny and Leonard get 1 Million $ an episode ! Now that is a Big Bang !!! That show continues to be one of my favorites on TV. And I have watched the epsodes many, many times …
