Sorry if this has been brought up before, but I can't find a topic that has specifically covered this. What rules are people using for Battlestar Galactica ship to ship fighter rules? Specifically Vipers VS. Raiders. I'm not looking for capital ships.

Thanks.

Someone should totally do this using the X wing rules, cmon Fantasy Flight, I would buy it

The new or old series? The old series I would use Silent Death. The new series I would use Hard Vacuum.

Either series. I would use X-Wing, but for all the cool models, I find the game kinda boring unless there is a lot of people and ships on the board. If there is only a couple people there's just too much Maneuvering and not enough shooting.

5150 Fighter Command with the free FC Crossover that includes stats for BG and more. You can download it off the same page for free.

I've seen several fan-generated X-Wing stats for BSG around. Shouldn't be a difficult search.

Damage can be a bit fiddly, but I still like the occasional game of Fasa's old box set, and I tend to avoid hex-based space games.

Inari7 has some excellent suggestions, though Full Thrust variants could be a possibility, with a cobbled cinematic for old, vector for new.

I just find it easy to adapt.

Have any Hard Vacuum games lately? Great looking game, but never found many willing to try it.

I love to play 'which miniature would proxy…'

Working on Hard Vacuum now . Planning on running it at GZG ECC in New York come Febuary .
Using silent death ships for proxies .
BSG ships use studio Bergstrum . Note the castins are good much better than the photos suggest .

I'm using Silent Death for TOS BSG fighter games (Colonial Battlefleet for fleet scale).

@ Ed, where can I bet more detail on the mechanics of the 5150 Fighter command? I don't want to get bogged down on X-Wing, but like I said, very cool models. I think the play needs a modification. For fast maneuverable fighters, you spend a lot of time trying to get stuck in. I love the WWI & WWII versions of the game as they require the cards which have shorter movement and you can get stuck in quickly and the range ruler is adapted well for the game. X-Wing, the movement strips are too long and the range ruler doesn't reflect the change in the lengthened movement strips. So you end up spending more time trying to get a shot off within range than actually shooting at your opponent. They need to lengthen the range ruler and the game would be a whole lot better, in my opinion. As to ships I have 40 of the Hasbro titanium Vipers and Raiders.

What's stopping you?

Also, what are the WWI/WWII versions?

Wings of War and Dawn of War. That is what X-Wing and Attack Wing are based on.I never really gave Attack Wing a try as the ship scales were so out of whack, and the game never really had a Trek feel to it for me. I like A Call to Arms better for Trek gaming. As to modifying the ruler, I am all for it, but one thing I have learned in 30+ years of gaming, is that people don't like to mess with the original rules and sets. I have lived in 4 different states, and every time I try to introduce a house rule or modification, I was shot down as there is some tournament coming up and they have to play to get ready. WH40K players are nuts about that stuff especially. The only chance I have to introduce a Galactica game is if I bring some preset rules and minis. The local gaming shop has one day a week where you can play anything. The rest of the week it's only games that they sell.

Closest one in about 25 miles. Any recommendation for a rule set?

I created my own BSG themed space combat board game. You can read about it here if you are interested:

Kinda-sorta; the rule vs. card mechanism difference is pretty big, but I won't push it.

Ship scales tend not to bother me too much, but I agree it followed some of X-Wing's mechanics TOO closely.

I know we're pretty chaffed when people come in and play Warmachine when sell almost none, but we're still have the largest group play in town I'm aware of.

If you can find table space, you can play.

@Daricles Still trying to put together a copy; getting the cards printed was problematic, though a friend was so interested, he was going to draw up a board.

That's why they should adjust the shooting ruler. I really like Dawn of War and Wings of War. One of the few games that I have played for hours and didn't get bored and each scenario was fairly quick. X-Wing becomes so tedious trying to maneuver to get a shot off and finding out that you missed. X-Wing is great with a bunch of players and ships because something will stray into your range eventually if you fly figure 8's. The benefit of X-Wing is that the table looks great and the pre painted models are really nice. I'm looking to see what is out there for space fighter battle games for Galactica. I have no issue with my local game store setting the rules they have. They are a great group of guys.

Doug, did you try make-a-deck.com? I've had three sets printed by them so far and they all came out fantastic.
