"A Galaxy Far, Far Away is now a little bit closer thanks to a new seven-minute teaser for Star Wars Rebels, the new animated series set between the prequel trilogy and original movies debuting this fall. Taking place after the end of Star Wars: Episode III—Revenge of the Sith, Rebels explores an important part of the franchise's mythology by introducing the characters responsible for the creation of the Rebel Alliance that eventually takes down the Galactic Empire in George Lucas' original space operas. But Rebels has an important place in Star Wars history beyond the fictional narrative. It's the first new part of the franchise to be released since Disney bought Lucasfilm in 2012, and also the first new Star Wars story to see the light of day since Lucasfilm redefined Star Wars canon in April, declaring all ancillary material to be as "real" as the movies themselves. In other words, Star Wars Rebels is definitively the start of the Disney era of Star Wars, even ahead of next year's Star Wars: Episode VII…" Full article and teaser here. link Amicalement Armand |

So… we have a Sith and a Jedi and a Jedi in training… during a time when they should all be dead… |

Interesting enough to give it a chance without getting my hopes up too much, and yeah, there are a lot of Force users. Was that an Imperial tie fighter actually hitting something? |

Yeah, all Jedi/Sith including Ben Kenobi, Yoda, Vader and the Emperor were killed at the end of Episode III. What gives? |

See … ya wear the armor, your death is comic relief. You don't wear the armor, you'll be knocked aside and be just fine. |

Well… he is a thief on an arid planet. I also disliked that the Imperials had to be "Bad Bully" types. I forgot how the rest of the Aladdin movie went, but it had a lot of similarities. |

The Imperial inquisitor is not a Sith. And The Jedi is in hiding like so many others after the events of ep.3. This does look a little softer than the fantastic Clone Wars series but that makes sense given that the new films will probably skew a bit towards older kids and young adults. Star Wars is a kids property, this show looks appropriate for the 6 and up crowd. As for the comparison to Aladdin, you find it unusual for Star Wars to use character archetypes? Like a farm boy, a smuggler, a princess… |

The Imperial inquisitor is not a Sith. Oh sorry… just a red colored dual-bladed light saber wielding, force using bad guy link As for the comparison to Aladdin, you find it unusual for Star Wars to use character archetypes? There is a difference between and archtype and scene for scene recreation. Thief saves someone from bad guy in bazaar, takes food for himself, epic chase through streets. Just missing the monkey singing and dancing. |

Hmm. Curious to know if the new movie will be "kid centric" or a little more adult in tone? I think a grittier SW could grab a new generation, but a kid centric could doom it. I think cartoons for kids and grit movies for us older kids could keep the die hards engaged and bring the next generation in. |

For a kid-centric series they racked up a pretty impressive body-count during that 7-minute preview. Still, it doesn't look bad. |

Maybe we can get cutsie-anime meets angsty-grimdark-lens-flares? Cha-ching! I shudder to think of all the talent and creative energy being used to reinvent and rehash the same tired franchises over and over and over…. On the bright side, the original movie is still pretty good (if you can find the version BEFORE GREEDO SHOOTS….) Rant over. |
