…The History Of Extremist Organizations.

"It's a pattern of territorial expansion that has now become familiar. After the Islamic State captured Sinjar on Sunday, came the executions. Then arrived the orders to convert or die, the flash of the movement's black flag, the fleeing of thousands — and, finally, the jubilant and chilling images on social media.

One showed a destroyed Shiite shrine, which had long sat in the ancient city of Sinjar in northwestern Iraq. Another depicted the executions of several blindfolded men. There was an image of two masked men who had climbed a tall building, enshrouded its edifice in a black Islamic State flag, and blasted a pistol into the air. Then there was a picture showing a masked jihadist hoisting a gun at the desk of the town's mayor — a portrait of a famed Kurdish guerrilla leader looming behind.

The armed movement, which has surged in wealth, manpower and resources in recent weeks, also just took the town of Wana on Sunday, according to The Washingon Post‘s Loveday Morris. The Islamic State routed a once-proud Kurdish army and forced an exodus of residents the United Nations said numbered in the hundreds of thousands. Calling the situation a "humanitarian tragedy," a top U.N. envoy to Iraq said in a statement that their expulsion was "dire."…"

Okay, now I'm worried.

doug redshirt06 Aug 2014 4:50 a.m. PST

I really dont care to be honest. If someone doesnt want them in their neighborhood, then they can deal with them.

coopman06 Aug 2014 6:13 a.m. PST

Seems like an ideal time to unleash some precision drone strikes.

I agree coop … plus some cruise missiles … I better be careful, tuscaloosa will get upset with me … again …

Legion4, I'm not quite sure what your point is.

ISIS is bad, we're all pretty much agreed on that. The U.S. spent trillions of dollars, 4,000 U.S. lives and about 100,000 Iraqi lives to fix the Iraqi problem. We failed.

I have no interest whatsoever in going back to Iraq, no matter if ISIS starts hanging Maliki from a lamppost or whatever other horrible things they do. I'm pretty sure the vast majority of American taxpayers and voters agree with me.

So, other than repeatedly stressing how bad ISIS is, something that's pretty self-evident to everyone on TMP, what's your point?

LOL !!!! laugh

I really dont care to be honest. If someone doesnt want them in their neighborhood, then they can deal with them.

The problem with that is, ISIS has many Sunni supporters and local recruits. In many cases because of the current Shia' Iraqi regime. Not including the Sunni in governing, shutting the Sunni out, etc., etc. as they promised the US they would, etc. … And they have Iranian support, also mostly Shia' … The Iraqi regime does not have the moral courage and strength, etc. to stop ISIS. As with the ARVN in Vietnam, the troops won't fight for a corrupt, incompetent, etc. leadership … As well as a the various sectarian, ethnic, etc. divides … Shia militia alligned with other then the current regime, Kurds, Christians trying to not become genocide victims, etc., etc. … It's not like, as in Afghanistan, the US [and others] didn't train, give/sold equipment, etc. to both the Iragi and ANA/ANP … And like the ARVN … it was all generally for not … Plus a lot of Blood & Treasure invested … and not just by the US, but other countries, and in the 'stan, NATO … Plus in both cases, alot of NGO, UN, etc., aid … My Short answer > Call-in the drones & Cruise missiles … before ISIS and it ilk expand further then just Syria, parts of Lebanon, much of Iraq … whose next ? Jordan ? Israel ? Of course the IDF is not likely to be bested by ISIS, etc. rabble …

jpattern206 Aug 2014 7:22 a.m. PST

So far, they haven't invaded or even threatened any areas or countries that I even give a damn about. When they do, then I'll care. Until then, the hell with all of them.

As doug redshirt says, it's time to let that neighborhood take care of itself for a while. Certainly, the US's interventions of the last 50 years (and then some) hasn't contributed to a whole lot of stability in the area. With that kind of track record, anything we do would probably cause more harm than good.

Well I certainly do agree … Deleted by Moderator … Doing more harm then good – it would be hard to imagine how things could be any more Bleeped text up, save for ISIS capturing Baghdad and the near by airport … But time will tell … IMO, the only force in the region that could effectively defeat ISIS and it's "allies" is the IDF … but that would be a whole other topic … Deleted by Moderator

And again, what has this to do with playing with toy soldiers?

Zargon06 Aug 2014 10:03 a.m. PST

'And again, what has this to do with playing with toy soldiers?'

Well some of those toys do depict some of these cow patties.

Overheard in a shop full of chinawear. "You break it you own it bud!"

You may want to play a game with toy soldiers that represent the IDF, ISIS, etc. …

"I better be careful, tuscaloosa will get upset with me "

Let's just say there's a high noise to sound ratio in L4's posts. But no need to seek my approval in your posts – shrug.

High noise to sound ratio ? Should I be offended ? I make a lot of noise but say nothing very important ?!?! laugh But I did get "snipped" … so I must have inadvertantly said something upsetting … So I am sorry for that …

Lookingglassman07 Aug 2014 9:50 a.m. PST

A sad situation overall.

Looks like the US is [finally] thinking about using CAS to slow up ISIS fanaticism from cleansing more religious minorities, etc., etc. … There are Iraqis protesting in front of the White House about that something should be done to stop the islamists' slaughter. As I have said on many other post/threads here, sooner or later something is going to have to be done to stop these moslem madmen … [Too much noise to sound for ya tuscaloosa ?] With or without CAS … there is still a lot of trouble ahead … Of course even CAS is not a "magic silver bullet" …

tuscaloosa07 Aug 2014 3:14 p.m. PST

[Too much noise to sound for ya tuscaloosa ?]

No, just more of the blindingly obvious.

jpattern207 Aug 2014 5:42 p.m. PST

Who says "moslem" anymore?

It's almost never used among English-speakers because it's considered insulting, compared to "muslim," because of the way it's pronounced.

I had no idea there was anything insulting or, besides spelling, anything really different between "moslem" or "muslim" ? And English is my first and only language, and has been for almost 6 decades. I guess you learn something everyday ?

Ah !! SEE !! I knew it !! "Moslem" is still used !! thumbs up

jpattern208 Aug 2014 8:52 a.m. PST

Well, it *was* still used – in 1965, when that song was recorded. laugh

From one site, FWIW:

Whereas for most English speakers, the two words are synonymous in meaning, the Arabic roots of the two words are very different. A Muslim in Arabic means "one who gives himself to God," and is by definition someone who adheres to Islam. By contrast, a Moslem in Arabic means "one who is evil and unjust" when the word is pronounced, as it is in English, Mozlem with a z.
More to my point, though, is that many hardcore fringe hate groups, in the US at least, have begun consciously using "Moslem" as an insult. I avoid the term because I don't want to be associated with such groups by even the thinnest of threads.

Am I part of a fringe hate group if I refer to the ISIS and their ilk as "Moslems"? Because that is exactly what they are, unjust and evil….

Personal logo Legion 4 Supporting Member of TMP09 Aug 2014 11:14 a.m. PST

I'm think I'm pretty much with you on that … when it comes to fanatical islamists/moslems/muslims/jihadists/etc. … ISIS give fanatical islamists a bad name … Hey, if AQ does not want to play with you … that pretty much says it all …

jpattern209 Aug 2014 11:31 a.m. PST

Because that is exactly what they are, unjust and evil . . .
Maybe just call them brutal, uncivilized Bleeped texts.
