My buddy is using Castaldo rubber to make molds of my sculpts that are Greenstuff. Sometimes we get some light, sometimes heavier, burning on the original. He is doing it at about 180degrees for an hour I believe.

Maybe we are using the wrong rubber? Any hints on materials or anything to prevent the burning?

Or is light burning just something that happens to the originals? from what I see of other greens that have already been cast, they seem to have no burning/blackening on them.

FWIW all of our greens end up a darker shade regardless of epoxy putty used. Just seems to be the norm when vulcanised under pressure/heat.

I use low temperature vulcanising for my masters (if I expect I will need multiple moulds making in the future)

this normally means I can take an undamaged master and have a sculptor perform surgery on it.

When I saw this post, I have to admit my first thought was "Trogdor?"

ME TOO! BURNINATING THE COUNTRY SIDE!! YAY!

Thanks for the info guys. I was just wondering if it was normal to have some burnination on the original and supposedly it is, so thanks ;)

I will stop yelling at my buddy now. Well, unless he breaks more of them though… He's the 'breakinator'.

I use 200 degrees and 9" CL-1 Conley Casting black rubber molds. My greens turn brown, but they aren't burned. They just change color.

TROGDOR (the Burninator)!
