If anyone has gone down this road, did you find a paint color that works well? I'd like something that can be used straight out of the bottle. Thanks.

Joe – Can't help you with the color, plates show quite the variety between what I would call faded Russian green to almost a medium brown.

But, tell us about this project! Figures, scale, rules?

Early or late war? Late war was a brownish color French style uniform.

Look up the Balkan War. there were several plates of Serbian soldiers in that book. We also commented on them in our Balkan Wars special issue for Time Portal Passages.

@Rudy: The problem is that plates show them in green, grey-green, grey, various shades of brownish/khaki, etc.

Should have specified early war, the 1912-1914/5 bracket.

@Darryl: Good question. 15mm is probably the most practical for a number of reasons, but there are some nice 25s out there. Have you seen Tiger's Balkan War range? I don't have any rules per se, but I am looking at rules that will handle large actions easily (a stand is a unit); something like DBx or a modified Volley and Bayonet. This project has been on the back burner for years (and I've dabbled with a few figs over the years)and I figured 2014 would be a great time to actually start the project with some earnest.

I have seen those Tiger figures…they are nice. However, if you are thinking Volley and Bayonet, 15mm might be better…would give a fuller" look to each unit.

I am liking those 15mm Khurasan figures (no Serbs yet). Serbs are available (15mm) via Euruka. It is too bad someone doesn't have those Alphacast molds. Those were nice figures.

Grey. Many shades seem to be used.

Yeah, too bad about Alpha Cast; a very interesting range of figures.

I agree that 15mm would probably give a better look for what I am trying to do.
