I have read on The Other Site that they could, and the one who noted this encouraged mischief. well, we have had a lot of locked accounts lately, and if by causing mischief they want us to not change anything… Or, if they DO want us to change. In any event, SHOULD locked accounts be allowed to vote, if they can? |

Note that nothing can be done about dormant sock puppet accounts. From personal knowledge, one cannot vote if you start an account AFTER the Poll has started. |

I am a Republican, and hate it when Democrats can vote in OUR primaries and help choose our nominees. That might explain a lot… Seriously, if the purpose of the Polls this week is to pull TMP back from rancor and bad blood, to remove causes of that, it does not bode well if those who wish us ill can help determine policy. |

Yes, removing all banned, closed, dormant and sockpuppet accounts would solve all this vote-rigging tomfoolery. It would, however, make a bit of a swiss cheese of quite a few of the message threads. On the other hand it would make the membership figures a lot more accurate. |

get rid of polls and take responsibility as an editor |

I am a Republican, and hate it when Democrats can vote in OUR primaries and help choose our nominees. That might explain a lot… grin Over here in socialist Europe (I've heard we are all socialists as far as the Republicans are concerned) we think it's hilarious. Having said that, up in the North East they've been known to elect some even funnier things – I give you the mayor of Hartlepool:
And they re-elected him twice more!

OFM – when your account was locked, weren't you using loopholes in the security to make posts and such? |
John the OFM | 05 Aug 2014 11:10 a.m. PST |
Yes I was, and doing it very publicly. I would have thought that those loopholes would have been fixed by now. |

I am a Republican, and hate it when Democrats can vote in OUR primaries and help choose our nominees. I can understand that. I'm a Democrat, and I wouldn't like it if Republicans can vote in our primaries. The shoe is on the other foot, but the sentiment is the same. What I really wouldn't want here is for folks to create sock puppet accounts or use existing ones to get more than one vote. That holds true for any poll, not just the current ones. I'm not saying anyone here is doing that, mind you. I don't have any proof that's going on. I'm just saying I hope that doesn't happen here. It has happened on other boards I frequent, and I never thought it was fair. |

A lot of forums delete unused memberships after 2 years or at least allow you to delete your old account. Neither applies here though. |

What I'd really like to know is why that other web site has so much influence on this one. |

Good question. Suffice it to say that several disgruntled former TMPers who babe been locked out have stated they will be doing guerrilla voting on TMP. Why should they care? Who knows why but they do. |
tkdguy | 05 Aug 2014 8:39 p.m. PST |
Folks with locked accounts shouldn't be able to vote. Is it possible here? Normally, folks who are banned from a discussion board can't get back in. |
Editor in Chief Bill | 06 Aug 2014 5:25 a.m. PST |
There is nothing that currently prevents Locked members from voting. (Locked was originally intended simply to remove posting privileges.) |
Neroon | 06 Aug 2014 7:51 a.m. PST |
Why haven't you gone and manually changed the passwords on locked accounts to prevent them from logging in? |
tkdguy | 06 Aug 2014 5:09 p.m. PST |
If members have more than one account, can they vote multiple times? That doesn't sound fair. |
