Yes apologies for this I actually tried to post this same thread 5 or 6 times And received a time-lock message. BTW I originally asked the editor to remove the extra ones but he's obviously got bigger fish to fry…or whatever :) Don't take this the wrong way but I believe this is my house…and well you're living in it and…that doesn't seem quite right to me…. |

I think I'm trying to escape much of the insanity by doing my Napoleonics in 3mm. quick, general paintjobs, no regimental distinctions really possible, I don't think, so the command stand is the only major difference. And you can really play 1:1 groundscale of 1:600 (6"=100 yards) without it being too insane. Figures works out to about 4 real men for 3 minis, but still can look incredible! But since I bought a small pile of ABs, I'm going to use them for skirmishing. Detail's good enough, and I can probably find a spare Rifle Sergeant in my collection to give a 7-barreled volley gun |

Im checking out both 3mm and 6mm as the most serious options right now. Do you know the best options available in these scales? I have 20mm AB in WW2 and the detail is amazing but I think 15mm seems beyond me right now….ill focas on these two scales and see whar comes up :) |

I'd seriously recommend Adler (and perhaps some Baccus as well) in 6mm. The Adler figures are beautiful, and in my view the costumes of the era are a large part of I what makes it attractive. I have yet to see anything in smaller scales that doesn't look like just a load of strange little blobs. I chose 6mm as the best of most worlds, inasmuch as I can build and field pretty large armies, limited only by my available money, space, and the time it takes to paint and base them. I am also building Napoleonic forces in 10mm, 15mm and even 28mm, for progressively smaller scenarios as the scales increase (in fact the 15mm & 28mm is pretty much just eye-candy at present) but I'm concentrating my main efforts on 6mm, with a view to re fighting a large-ish battle of Smolensk, 1812. |

Dear Panda, As you mention cost and time as being important, may I suggest my own 6mm paper armies as a starter… they come as blocks which are fairly easy to construct – glued with PVA they are quite strong and can take some handling they last a lost time too i still have some made eight years ago. You get a whole army for £5.00 GBP – and so you can print and make as many as you like ! They would be a useful low-cost temporary measure whilst you decide on the rules and ground scales and period that you want to use and concentrate on, this decision can take some time. Cavalry and infantry blocks are all 20mm and you can base them singly in unit or sub-units for tactical-level gaming, or in multiples on bases for "brigade-scale" games. Anyway I hope this may provide you with a compromise which will allow you to try different rules without spending too much time, effort and money on figures that you may dispense with anyway because they don`t fit with the type of games that you`ll decide upon. The armies are at: link |

Get a good bottle of scotch. Drink half of it. Order two battalions from every company offering 15mm Napoleonic- one country from each vendor. There are countries that you never heard of and that have not existed since. German states that consist of a town square and a bell tower, but raised a battalion. That's the right way to start. Remember, if you have unpainted lead, you can not die. |

1968billsfan@ I thought you were joking but after only a few days of research and getting more and more confused the scotch seems like an excellent idea :) |

No, brandy for Napoleonics. Whisky wasn't a popular drink until the mid 19th century…… |

Just remember if you are new here, TMP is a park. Some areas are safer than others. The Napoleonics board is the Sandpit (or for you 'Merkins a Sandbox) in that park. But it is full of landmines. In an area surrounded by bushes full of child rapists. And you are the golden haired little child in the velvet sailor suit. Welcome……. |
