In light of the fact that the Editor has said that the Polls are coming back, and that the Ignore and Stifle functions will be the subjects of some, I have the following unsolicitated advice. Since Dear Editor wishes to have the public decide rather than issue an edict or go ahead and do it anyway, here they are. Make as many Polls as deemed necessary. I suggest that we keep the Ignore and Stifle functions, as they are issued. There is a demonstrated "need" by some Members to have the ability to not read what some other Members have to say. I have heard all the "manhood" arguments, but even if YOU are man enough to shave with a blowtorch, you cannot impose your standards on others. If I wish to be wimpy, that is not your problem. I suggest that the Member be able to be aware of the quantity of each that he has. This MIGHT lead him to mend his/her ways, but it has had no effect on me. I suggest that this statistic no longer be public knowledge. I used to think that they were amusing to look up, but due to past recent rancor, it might be a good idea to not have these statistics public any more. So, eliminate the "Most Stifled" and "Most Ignored" tables, and no longer put them on the visible part of a Member's profile. I do NOT think that any reason needs to be given when I Ignore or Stifle anybody, since the target is not harmed in any way. If the publishing of these stats per member is taken away, that should be the end of it. My $0.02 USD |

Also, the Polls should be worded with no wiggle room. Either YES or NO, with no "no opinion" or other waffle options. I hate "agree a little bit" up to "I disagree a lot" options that do nothing but dilute. |

In deference to the low status of the sock puppet caste I will not be voting in important Polls. I reserve the right to vote in truly stupid ones, but I am the sole judge of that. |

I'm with both John & Winston on this, but would go a step farther. Get rid of post counts while you're at it. I've never understood the fascination with post counts! |

Post counts are a reminder to me of how much time I waste here when I could be out selling Comcast. They also give me (should they EVER be accurate) milestones to celebrate. |

Flintloque – great suggestion. Throw in post counts. Time for all useless numbers to go. |

Post counts have never caused acrimony like the stifle and ignore counts do. |

What is "Sock Puppeting"? Sock puppeting is the use of one or more anonymous accounts in a manner designed to deceive others. For instance: Posting a message on the forums, then using other member accounts to "agree" with yourself so that you seem to be winning the argument; Posting messages from multiple accounts to give the impression that a "crowd" is interested in your favorite period/rules/subject; Sock puppeting is not allowed at TMP. or is it?

I would like to suggest as the new board name, "The Naked and the Dyed". I'm acting on a hunch here. |

I do NOT think that any reason needs to be given when I Ignore or Stifle anybody, since the target is not harmed in any way. I think that it is important that one knows the reasons for ones Stifles or Ignores. If you do not know why your behavior is unacceptable, then you can do nothing to change it. If I've managed to offend someone I would prefer to know how, so that I can avoid hurting them in the future. |
