Last night I got out a surplus box to pack some figures I had just sold. As I was peeling the old mailing labels off I discovered an interested wargaming supply journey. The box began its journey long ago and far, far away in North Carolina carrying figures (I presume) from the Brom's old company "And That's the Way It Was" to my good wargaming friend here in Jackson, Mississippi. From there it wended its way to Patrick Wilson at TVAG in Oklahoma and then back to me with TSATF card sets. Now it will carry surplus figures to their new owner in Nevada. Maybe he will be able to continue its cross-country trek to the west coast. Jim |

Someone reported a similar story here a while ago where his son was pealing off labels & found their own address some number of layers down. So the same box had already passed through their house once before. |

It is like one of those films, with a collection of short stories interlinked by a transfered object. |

And in this case, also linked because we all know each other. Jim |

We wargamers are just too cheap to buy new boxes and mailers. I almost exclusively use reused packagint and I've sent things out with many layers of addresses on it before, but never bothered to peel them up and see where the box had been. I'll have to try this some time. |

It's always good to reuse when possible. Peeling back the labels sounds a little like archaeology. The more you peel, the farther back in time you go. |

When I was a kid we used to keep all of our special Christmas ornaments in a blue electric blanket box. A couple of years after I joined the military (early 80's) my parent's house burned to the ground in the middle of the night (luckily they weren't home) and they lost everything. Years later after I was married and had children we received our Christmas presents from my parents in the mail and they were in "the box". I was more excited about that then the presents (my wife thought I'd lost my mind as I yelled THE BOX THE BOX until I explained). It had survived because mom had stored some stuff at my brothers in it. So for the last 20 years all our special ornaments are safely housed in "The Box". |

Cool story Razor. I too always peal off the address labels on minis packages. Partly for ID security when I re-use them and partly being curious about the travels of the box and perhaps the contents. I worked in the music field for quite some time. Part of what we handled were music scores, written out music books for the various instrumentations, choir, band and orchestra sets, etc. There too, I enjoyed pealing off the labels to see who and where the music had been. |
