Announcing the Kickstarter for Chaos in Cochise County

picture

Chaos in Cochise County is a miniatures skirmish game set in the Weird West. Gunfighters, lawmen and Apache square off against supernatural foes including vampires, werewolves and ghosts.

This 100+ page rulebook includes all the rules needed to play. Based on the fast-playing and easy to learn Goalsystem Rules Engine (Chaos in Carpathia, Chaos in Cairo 2nd Edition), each player builds a warband and faces off against their opponents.
Warbands can be constructed of Apaches, US Marshals, Vampires or Regulators. The rules cover combat, mounted figures, wagons, weapons and equipment. Additional chapters cover character creation and a roster of Special and Unique characters players can recruit and add to their warbands to provide extra punch and cover their weaknesses. Five scenarios and an entire campaign system are included allowing players to play either one-off games or linked series of games as a campaign. As characters survive each scenario, they gain experience and become more powerful.
Chaos in Cochise County is fully compatible with Chaos in Carpathia and Chaos in Cairo 2nd Edition. Warbands, Special and Unique characters and even the scenarios from these earlier publications can be easily integrated into CiCC campaigns, allowing players even more options and scope.

MINIATURES

The miniatures for the game are sculpted in 'Heroic 28mm' scale by veteran designer and sculptor Bob Naismith. Players should find all the unique characters they need to start building their warbands. Expansion of the line is planned.

WHY WOULD YOU WANT TO BACK THIS PROJECT AND WHAT'S IN IT FOR YOU?

Chaos in Action Games is a new company creating rules and miniatures for skirmish gaming within historical settings seasoned with Gothic Horror and Pulp-style action.
If you like what you see and decide to become a Backer, you're investing in more than a game you find interesting. You'll be investing in a new company, Chaos In Action Games. The proceeds from this Kickstarter will be used to fuel the next phase of our company. More miniatures and a line of terrain pieces will follow to further support Chaos in Cochise County and your contributions will allow Chaos In Action Games to actively support and expand its product lines. Chaos in Cochise County is only the first product available and there are more projects in pre-production including more miniatures for Cochise County, a Steam Punk-themed sequel, Chaos in Tombstone and a zombie-infested, mass combat game, Chaos in Undeadwood.
And our products will not be confined to just the Old West. Other settings include Steampunk Victorian England, Pulp adventures on a remote island and a near-future, post-Apocalyptic USA wasteland. All these games include a full line of miniatures and terrain models.

The Kickstarter will launch Monday, August 18th. Please take a moment to check our Kickstarter preview that includes Pledge levels, a full description and photos of the merchandise available and more information on the creator.

Are the figs about the same size as Mr Naismith did for The Great Rail Wars line?

CIA Games04 Aug 2014 7:50 a.m. PST

Yes they are. I own many of those and the new minis match up.

CIA Games04 Aug 2014 9:20 a.m. PST

30mm, give or take a mm. If you have any Great Rail Wars or Deadlands minis, it's the same sculptor. He also did the Blue Moon Old West line, among others.

The rules seem to translate well for other uses. I wrote a previous set of Pulp rules set in 1920s Egypt (Chaos in Cairo, 2nd Edition) and many of the folks playing that have used it for other genres as well. I've seen quite a number of homemade scenarios for the game that are great.

You could easily drop out the Horror aspects of the game and use it for traditional Old West adventures, if that's more to your liking. The warband & special character lists should allow for any number of archetypes to be created and fielded.

The campaign is relatively simple and not hyper-detailed so it could be put to other uses with some tweaking. The various supernatural models have their own advancement tables so again if you were to simply ignore them, you'd have a campaign system you could use with just Western characters.

Are you really shooting for an October 2014 delivery or is that just a place holder?

CIA Games04 Aug 2014 2:04 p.m. PST

The book is still in layout so I wanted to play it safe. The casting company is all set up and ready for when the KS ends but I would imagine folks would be pretty mad if they were told, "September" and we missed the deadline.

After Relic Knights an Oct '14 delivery sounds "too soon" not "push it back a month just-in-case"! thumbs up

You've got my money (or at least you will). grin

I've heeded the complaints of folks who invested in KS s that either were extremely tardy with delivery or never delivered at all. I wanted to launch this in the Spring but decided to wait until most of the setup was complete. One chance to make a first impression and all that!

Thomas Whitten04 Aug 2014 2:38 p.m. PST

Nice, I've got tons of Deadland figures painted up and would love to add to them. Additionally we were just looking at getting some kind of weird west campaign rolling.

BTW, love the delivery date. It is nice not having to wait a year for the goodies.

CIA Games04 Aug 2014 3:38 p.m. PST

Glad to hear it, Thomas and Tberry and thanks for the kind compliments! If I recall correctly, Thomas, aren't you a Goalsystem player from way back?

Ping Pong04 Aug 2014 3:56 p.m. PST

Very nice. I'll be in!

tberry740304 Aug 2014 5:52 p.m. PST

I go all the way back to first edition SuperSystem.

Thomas Whitten04 Aug 2014 7:09 p.m. PST

Like tberry I go all the way back to SuperSystem 1st. I was a sidekick and everything.

I think I need to break out either Chaos in Carpathia or Chaos in Cairo and get some games in while I wait.

CIA Games04 Aug 2014 7:36 p.m. PST

Well, welcome back, fellas! I'll definitely be paying attention to what you guys have to say. You probably know the system better than I do! ;-)
