Great. The wife's got an antiques fair in Peterborough the same weekend. There may be trouble ahead…

freewargamesrules04 Aug 2014 10:29 a.m. PST

I'll be there

deephorse04 Aug 2014 11:04 a.m. PST

There's a LEGO show in Swindon too, so I'll give Derby a miss this time. It's my least favourite show venue anyway so taking a year off may make me feel more like going next year.

Broken Spirit Wargames05 Sep 2014 11:00 a.m. PST

How much is a demo table

seneffe07 Sep 2014 8:55 a.m. PST

I see it's being held in that draughty, echoey cattle shed again. Tried in the first year and it was a truly dreadful venue.
I kid you not- it's normally used for farm equipment sales. Bad lighting and acoustics, diesel stains on the concrete floor, blocked toilets, revolting food- it's the perfect venue if you want to buy a second hand bailer. But for a wargames show- give it a miss.

FriedlandUK07 Sep 2014 2:19 p.m. PST

Always enjoyed the Derby show. Lots of traders, lots of stuff to choose from. Good bring n buy. No problem with the venue.

Looking forward to it.

bgbboogie08 Sep 2014 12:13 p.m. PST

The venue is great lots of room, user friendly so it a big shed. I'm too busy looking at the stands to see the floor and the toilets were ok when I went, didn't try the food though.

A great day out.

Excellent show, crap venue.

Volleyfire12 Sep 2014 2:30 p.m. PST

These comments on venues always remind me of the Old Bill cartoon 'If you knows a better 'ole, go to it' :)

Empires at War Sponsoring Member of TMP12 Sep 2014 2:58 p.m. PST

I have no say in where the show is held so 'Old Bill' can Bleeped text off.

Bad Squiddo Games12 Sep 2014 4:15 p.m. PST

I reckon I'll be there, not trading, just having a peep about!

Nearer to home, easy parking, all in one space, room to move about freely. I like the venue myself. Plan on being there for the Sunday .

Bad Squiddo Games13 Sep 2014 2:59 a.m. PST

I'm intrigued by the Leicester Phat Cats' Zombie SAGA demo

seneffe13 Sep 2014 11:10 a.m. PST

Volleyfire- well this particular venue certainly is a hole, I'll give you that.

Starting in 1984- I've been to 18 Derby shows but this place is so cold, dismal and badly lit that I'm going to give it a miss this year.

Goose66623 Sep 2014 3:00 p.m. PST

No bring and buy I hear this year! That sucks.
Half the reason for going, has gone in a way. Shame.

jammy four Sponsoring Member of TMP23 Sep 2014 3:07 p.m. PST

looking forward to going very much!!

Bad Squiddo Games24 Sep 2014 5:50 a.m. PST

Due to a drop out, I shall be trading after all!

I will have a good range of dice bags, gem bags and tiny pouches as well as gems dice, tape measures and other accessories. And of course the amazing flickering explosion markers. A good chance for anyone pondering a custom order to run their ideas past me.

I'm going to be there and I'll be bringing some potential new gaming converts. Because I'm such a trend-setter amongst my peers……and I have to bring them to look popular :-(

I'm looking forward to seeing your stall Dice Bag Lady, your products sound great.

Cheers Katie, see you and your posse there! :D

Scarab Miniatures01 Oct 2014 12:40 p.m. PST

Scarab will be there with a bunch of Great War related stuff and the Wargames Factory plastic sets and the various value deals. And of course War & Conquest Ancient/Medieval rules and a game, probably similar to this one link

Yes its a big hall, but so is Excel (Salute venue)

From a trade point of view, I have found the venue easy to get in and out of with a trolley, and perhaps as importantly for everyone easy to drive to and from.
Its next to an airport for anyone from outside the UK (or even some parts of the UK) and the airport has a shuttle service to and from Nottingham, and no doubt other nearby cities.
Toilets have been fine, and the cup of tea I bought last year was to acceptable standard for price and quality (as I recall – it was a year ago!). Anyway, that's just a personal view and I am looking forward to the show again this year – my wallet might not be though, theres a few things I 'need'

Kind regards

This will be my third visit to Donny, and I've yet to find the military vehicle collection. As I'm bringing a small person along this year who will be beside himself with excitement at the prospect of seeing them can anyone tell me how we find them please?

jeffwt02 Oct 2014 1:48 p.m. PST

The vehicles are part of the Donington Collection.

See the link below for more details.

The Dice Bag Lady will be in E4, it's pretty much slap bang in the middle, an easy "sock slide" from the entrance actually.

heading up there now, see you chaps and chapettes tomorrow (or Sunday!)

I've also got a few "Gripping Beast approved" Saga dice bags, but you should get there quickly before they leap off,

Cheers

Volleyfire03 Oct 2014 9:53 a.m. PST

Are there any of those remote control tanks this year, just to keep the small person amused whilst we grab a breather?

Volleyfire03 Oct 2014 1:38 p.m. PST

Memory must be going, that was Sheffield with the RC tanks. Doh!

Lardie the Great04 Oct 2014 12:08 p.m. PST

Volleyfire, there were RC tanks at Derby/Donnington last year as well.

Volleyfire04 Oct 2014 2:03 p.m. PST

Back from Donnington, had an excellent day, 5 hours just flew by. Big thanks to the folks running the Bolt Action and Wings of Glory ww2 games, they were stars. Two great games we really enjoyed and that was down to the guys (and gal)running them.
No complaints about the venue, in fact my OH commented how much better it was than Kelham, more space to move around so you didn't have to keep saying 'excuse me' or dodge swinging rucksacks, better lighting so you could see everything clearly, and it didn't smell which apparently she thought Kelham did. Kelham was her first experience of a wargames show btw. I have no sense of smell so can't comment! Food and drinks were fine, and the loos were too, very short queue to get in the show at 11am, and once inside everything was fine. My small person thoroughly enjoyed himself and wants to return next year, in fact he said that before we'd left the building. So, a big thank you to the organisers.

FriedlandUK04 Oct 2014 3:29 p.m. PST

I'd agree with you there Volleyfire. A very good day out. I managed to pick up everything on my shopping list, and even came away with a lovely looking Fantasy Boardgame ("Lords of Waterdeep") after having a chat to the blokes at Shadow Games.

Particularly impressed with the French Indian Wars display game near the main entrance – what an awesome looking fort!!

A mention has to be made regarding the goodie bag everyone got at the door which held a free sprue of French Line Infantry from Warlord and a 10% off voucher from Newline Design (duly used to buy some 20mm WW2 Russians).

Had an absolutely splendid time, many thanks to all the organisers and people who came along. I'll definitely be back next year trading, hopefully have a minion next time so I can get off my stall for more than 2 minutes at a time and check out what else is going on. Venue was absolutely great, and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves.

Cheers to everyone who came up to the stall, either just for a chat or to buy things, was a massive success.

Thanks again
