Well, I've made some serious progress on my human army for All Quiet. Attached are some pics of the 326th Tank Battalion. So far I only have one company done plus some support. And no, your eyes aren't deceiving you, I have some MK IV tanks and some self propelled guns and even a minelayer. How? Well at Historicon Ernie was kind enough to let me have a few. An unexpected perk for being in business with him. Don't be jealous, yours will be coming soon!
I've set up a color coding and numerical system for my armor. Whether it if for company or platoon,
Red = 1st,
White – 2nd
Blue = 3rd
Green=4th.
The front of the side panels of the tanks will have a color coding for their company and platoon. So, the First company will have red. The first platoon will also be red, so the entire panel will be red. The second platoon will be white, so the front panel will be half red (for the company) and half white (for the platoon). The third will be red and blue.
1st platoon (Red & Red)
2nd Platoon (Red & White)
3rd Platoon (Red & Blue)
The second company (when I get it done) will be White & Red, White & White, and White & Blue for its three platoons.
Each tank has a number on the later German system with the first number the company, the second number the platoon and the third number the tank within the platoon
The company command tanks will be all the company color. It has the company and battalion number and then its own number. I made the command tank from the standard plastic kit. I scrounged a Russian tank commander and put an American helmet on him. He already had the signal flags.
The Mk IVs are awesome models. They feel really heavy after dealing with the plastic tanks! I built these pretty much straight up. I added magnets to hold the turrets on and scrounged another tank commander. Since each tank is its own platoon, they only get two digit ID numbers. I added model railroad coal to the bunkers.
The self propelled howitzers were the most challenging models to build. Getting the howitzers and their mounts assembled were a bit tricky. To pose the crewmen I cut them off their bases. Note the man holding the lanyard ready to fire!
And I also got a minelayer! It should add some interest!
Can't wait to get these boys into action!
