Last night (9pm EST) I had to choose between The Great Martian War on BBC America and Sharktopus vs Pterocuda on SYFY. Yea, like THAT was a tough choice! The Great Martian War is roughly the same timeline as All Quiet on the Martian Front only it takes place solely in Europe. They used stock footage from The Great War with the Martian war-machines "photoshopped" in (think Tom Hanks inserted into real footage of JFK and Johnson). The show is a "documentary" of the events of The Great Martian War with head of the War Museum doing the main exposition. Interviews (with dates of the interview!) with civilian and military survivors are included. A big plus is it is TWO HOURS LONG! Lots of time to do in depth coverage without it being hurried. If you didn't get to see it last night try to see it next time it comes out. Tim |

I watched it and I guess they had to intigrate with WWI footage but the "humans" were not properly armed. Small light canon (1.1") and explosive charges for the infanry should have been the proper weapons. Target the legs with the canon and grenadiers(bomb carriers) and when it comes down the drop should damage it enough for the grenadiers to finish it off. Not one word about Russian-German (Eastern Martian front) or The Austro-Itialian-Turkish-Balkins (Martian Southern front). Leave it to the British to forget about the "others". One sidelight, no World War II :( as everyone fought on the same side and there is a shortage of Germans. No Russian revolution as Russia wasn't even talked about. |

*Quietly mumbling to self* Netflix, please, oh, please, oh, Netflix… kallman, we have to be patient. It's our own fault if we don't buy the right package, or if we don't hound our cable provider into carrying BBC America. Or, like myself, if we just won't be bothered with cable. Doug |

Not one word about Russian-German (Eastern Martian front) or The Austro-Itialian-Turkish-Balkins (Martian Southern front). Leave it to the British to forget about the "others". So what was happening in russia during all this? Come on guys! It was a two hour "documentary" not "The World at War". It covered the European Front effectively without feeling hurried. Of course MY problem with it was: How did they translate the Martian language without a "Rosetta Stone"? |
