Hello all.

I recently purchased 8 of the awesome new Ion Age Adder Combat Lifters as part of the early backer program. I've put a post up on my blog about how NOT to prepare and paint them as a cautionary tale….

:-( Looks like they were struck by a tactical nuke. Your nail polish remover may have acetone in it. I found out that it reacts with certain types of resin while removing a superglued magnet.

Ouch! I feel your pain. Had something similar happen with some resin model railroad kits (my other hobby). Hope you can salvage them.

panzersaurkrautwerfer03 Aug 2014 6:02 a.m. PST

That's terrible.

I don't know about salvaging it in a traditional sense but you might have a decent vehicle wreck on your hands now.

Fizzypickles03 Aug 2014 7:35 a.m. PST

Pretty harsh stuff nail varnish remover.

Regards stripping, have you tried 'Dettol'? It's all I ever use, although I cannot think of any resin stuff I've stripped. I'm sure someone here will have.

On the [slightly] brighter side, you now have a complete set of damaged/destroyed vehicles to litter the battlefield with. ;-)

Goober03 Aug 2014 7:48 a.m. PST

I use Dettol on plastics as it will melt resin, just like nail varnish remover metls plastics.

Well Bleeped text me…thx for the heads up on Dettol/Resin….I would never have guessed.

morrigan03 Aug 2014 9:03 a.m. PST

Wow. Sorry to see that.

Might be worth scratching building an angled box on back to form space for troopers, so used as APC or light cargo.

Never know acetone nail vanish remover to damage plastic, there was sometime back an article about stripping figures, did not use detol but another household cleaner.

Regards

MMG.

I first noticed acetone attacking plastic when I dunked a bunch of 15mm figures based for FOW into a tub. The plastic tends to go all bendy and soft. I guess it depends how long they are exposed. A quick dip and they might be OK, likewise scrubbing might be OK, but an overnight soaking will deffo mess them up.

Soldado03 Aug 2014 12:14 p.m. PST

yikes, that sucks, i have stripped resin minis quite successfuly using dettol, from the likes of khurasan and clearhorizon. i do hope you are able to salvage at least some of these

Sorry to hear of this and to see such terrible results. I hope you can do something with them by way of conversions and such.

OH that has to truly suck! To find out the hard way, but who knew? Sorry for your pain.

Look at the bright side you made a new unit "Goober Globbens"

Were you using acrylics? If that is the case, I would recommenced using household ammonia. Freshly applied acrylics literally fly off your model when you dunk it in a bit of water and ammonia and you don't even have to warm it up.

BigNickR06 Aug 2014 6:37 p.m. PST

why do a whole set at once, when EVER i remove paint, i always try on ONE first…

a LOT easier to replace one than a dozen+
