A possible product idea: A set of tables to help determine the fate of your troops, vehicles and so forth in a campaign. The results would indicate levels of injury, loss of morale, improvements through experience, various levels of damage and so forth but would not be game-mechanic-specific. So as the player, if you determine after a battle that your squad has gained confidence, you would interpret that for the rules you happen to be playing. Results could be included for individual soldiers, squads and platoons so it would scale. It'd be aimed at World War 2 to modern battles but probably adaptable to most anything from 20th century onwards to near-future.
Could also fold in some generic options for determining how much a given battle contributed to the overall war effort and even some random event systems, if there's a desire for that. |

Possibly. How flexible will the system be? |

The goal will be to be quite flexible, so it can adapt to as many games as possible. Most of the results will be descriptive and the players will need to interpret what that means in their specific rules system. I imagine there'll be some systems too, to resolve how big an impact a given battle has in hte campaign, larger campaign actions and so forth. |

Platoon Forward has something similar where there are generic events after a battle. |

When I think of campaigns I think of rules or systems that help generate battles. So you move Force A on the strategic map and it runs in to Force 6 of the enemy, in square B7. You lay out B7 on the table and fight it out. If your system would include this portion I would be interested. I'd want everything to be integrated. |

Could probably add a mission genwrator as well. |

Do it Little Weas. I'm for it. Like the idea of watching my units become more than points with AA results. Cheers. PS something that fits into a Tomorrows War thing would be nice. But as you say generic for any fluff we would like to field. |

It'll be adaptable to most any rules system that has a bit of detail. I imagine there'll be separate tables for individual soldiers and for squads. So in a squad based game like Stargrunt, you may just look at the squad tables but use the individual ones for characters and leaders. |

Will your rules include stuff for air/naval/space combat as well? |
Weasel | 03 Aug 2014 7:36 p.m. PST |
My initial thinking was for land combat but I'll see what is feasible A set up that also generates scenarios for you will obviously have to be very generic to fit as widely as possible but it might not be harder than having two setups: Tactical objectives for smaller games and Strategic objectives for larger-scale games. |

Also, do people want simple, quick tables (D6 or D10) or big ones with a lot of possible results? (D20 or percentile?) One option might be to have quick tables for most things but a few "RPG" ones for special characters, small skirmish games etc.

Weasel, I am all for new ideas. I only ask that you do not copy the various bits of Platoon Forward or Squadron Forward. Currently Platoon Forward does all that you mention in your opening comments. I am adding combat results (what happened to all the people you lost in the last battle) in the next lardy special. Thanks Joe |
Weasel | 04 Aug 2014 6:18 p.m. PST |
Yeah, I would never copy another persons work :) This won't include any character creation like PF does, focusing instead on recovery and mechanics for the larger campaign going on around you. There'll be some plug in options too for resolving actions taking place during a battle and for things like military blunders and political demands. There will be a scenario generator but it'll be a bit more random rather than the list of pre-made scenarios PF offers. So no worries :) (and I've gotten a lot of good gaming out of PF, so kudos to you sir) |
