Hi All,

Well, the second building for my colonial/Great War outpost is off the table. Hotel Zur Neu-Moschi:

This was inspired by Hotel Zur Stadt Dar-Es-Salam:

Not a complete style match, but the closest I could get. Details on the build are here:

Thanks!

Evocative, especially in sepia.

Fabulous!

I love European colonial buildings. Great job.
I have never had the courage to tackle a roof like that. It looks like it would be hard to get those four pieces to fit size and angle wise.

Hi Tom,

I was intimated myself, but it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. I think using art card for the base was easier than plastic, as it's still fairly easy to cut but still relatively strong. Plus it's fairly cheap, so you can always junk it and start over if it all goes wrong.

Despite my best efforts, I ended up with sections that didn't fit perfectly. I think the secret is to measure often as you assemble, start with pieces that are slightly oversized and trim on the fly. Also, using the the strips of manila folder on all the joints really helped cover the gaps.

My final roof wasn't perfect, but it's amazing how many imperfections you can hide with paint and distracting the eyes with parts that are better built.

I have another building coming later that will also require an scratch built roof, so I'll make sure to take more photos of the construction and link to them here.

But now I have to have one, for a Tanga game I'm running at Tacticon in Denver next month.

Wow, amazing build!!!!!!! Very nice conversion work, the added scratch building really makes it look just right. I love the double duty design as well!
Cheers,
JB
