I thought it was some kind of futuristic doctors' scrubs |
Glengarry5 | 02 Aug 2014 1:09 p.m. PST |
A kaftan (or spelt caftan) perhaps? |
Cacique Caribe | 02 Aug 2014 1:09 p.m. PST |
Redroom, You could be right. But I seem to recall seeing something like it somewhere else: link I think I've seen a quilted version too. No clue where though. Dan |

Caftan? I'll check it out. Thanks! Dan |
15mm and 28mm Fanatik | 02 Aug 2014 1:36 p.m. PST |
It looks like one of those kung-fu shirts you see in martial arts movies. Considering that China rules the 'Firefly' universe, that's probably what it is. link |

Dunno what it is, but it's not a Kaftan or Caftan. A Kaftan is more like a robe. Loose and flowing. The style looks more like it's from India. |

I think 28mm fanatic has it – looks like a Duangua. |
Borathan | 02 Aug 2014 3:50 p.m. PST |
It looks more like an embroidered doctors scrubs…I've actually seen them with a few older doctors I had when I was younger, now it's not as common. |
ochoin | 02 Aug 2014 4:04 p.m. PST |
I'm thinking a kurta. But check this out: link |
The Shadow | 02 Aug 2014 4:42 p.m. PST |
hmmm….yeah…a Duangua. A couple of the photos that I looked at were longer, but they had that same slanted cut of upper body and neck. My guess is that's probably where they got the idea from. |

It's not anything specific, it's a mish mash. The folded front is Japanese in style, certainly not Chinese. Chinese shirts and jackets have buttons for men's clothing. |

First thought is I am looking at a female in a old chinese sword fighting movie. Search of simple "chinese blouse" turns up similar looking blouse. |
Boone Doggle | 02 Aug 2014 5:35 p.m. PST |
You can buy something vaguely similar link |
McWong73 | 02 Aug 2014 5:45 p.m. PST |
If it is Chinese, it certainly is more like something a woman would wear. |
Cacique Caribe | 02 Aug 2014 10:42 p.m. PST |
Didn't the Mongols wear something like it? Dan |
grommet37 | 02 Aug 2014 11:02 p.m. PST |
Dan, The traditional costume for a Korean woman (known as a hanbok) has a short jacket with the same collar and similar closure. From what I've read, it is a modification of the Mongol riding jacket. Hope that's useful. Cheers. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hanbok

I believe the style is quite universal. Chinese garb/gown from the early 20th century (Cheongsam for female and changshan for male) can sometimes have that kind of collar/buttoning style. |

Excellent info, you guys!!! Thanks, Dan |

It's also close to a japanese jinbei jacket, but I agree that it is mostly a very common general style for 'asian' jackets, and you'll find similar jackets in tons of cultures. |
