I am looking for some background material on Provosts and the related Cavalry Staff Corps…. What and how they did their thing, what unis they wore, how they were organized, the whole nine yards. I find stuff on punishments and discipline in the British Army but not much that specifically deals with the daily life of a Provost.

I do I see a book titled, "Staff Officer in the Penninsula." Is this relevant? Is it any good? I also see references to an 1836 study on military discipline, but can't find a place to read it online.

Do any of you kind folks have advice on what other references I should be looking for?
