What is the evidence for Assyrian shield colours, do you know?

Nice work, love the colors.

Shamed you into starting them, did I?

Nice looking figures. I'll start photographing mine from further away now, to stop any comparisons.

weren't the colours mentioned in the old WRG book?

Every time I see Assyrians I am reminded of the pile of Foundry Assyrians I've had for about 15 years..I really must paint them…It's just the 9 Chariots are so daunting a prospect to paint…

Thanks for the comments everyone.

Sobieski: Assyrian palace releifs have blues and reds left on them on the soldiers, from what I have read, and I think that is where the colours are generally taken from.

Trebian: You certainly did grin

Bindon: Just imagine how awesome they will look when completed though!

Firemonkey: These are Hat 1:72 plastics.

Brummie Lad,

Good to see I've had a positive effect on at least one person. For the colours on mine they're mainly blues and reds, with a few multi-coloured shields.

As I'm using the same figures for both Babylonian and Assyrian armies I've divided the colours/shield designs up so I can tell the armies apart as much as to comply with historical predecessors.

Lots of people ask what the figures are when you post pictures of Hat figures. I think that they are terribly unfairly overlooked by a lot of wargamers who can't see any further than the Perrys and Warlord Games. The early boxes are okay, but the later stuff, – including the Assyrians – is simply superb and really affordable.

Thanks, Brummie. I plan to do 'em in 10mm before the end of the year, so that's useful information.

Trebian,

I'm doing pretty much the same. My "regular" Assyrian army will be blue tunics with red shields, with the exception of the Guard units. I'll do my Babylonians differently, but of course, they could all still be used for both sides, especially with all the internal fighting that took place.

I agree about the Hat stuff, there are some dodgy ones out there, but event the "okay" figures, when given a decent paint job and ranked up can still look pretty impressive.

Sobieski: I look forward to seeing some pictures when they're completed grin
