Since we are airing out our TMP "Dirty Laundry", I feel that it is only right, fitting, and proper for me to openly confess the dark hidden secrets of my life and things on TMP.

1: I like Avalon Hill's "Gettysburg", (at the intermediate level), I think the advance level becomes a goat rodeo when played.

2: I don't really like SPI games…

3: I'm a member of TMP and LAF….

4: My membership name on LAF is "Murphy" (go figure)….

5: I'm not a member of the much discussed "FB" site that has been talked about quite a lot lately. Neither am I a member of Frothers…registered, guest, or otherwise….

6: I usually vote Republican, but I did vote for Democrat Oscar Goodman for Mayor of Las Vegas.

7: I don't care what age/race/gender/beliefs/social status/shoe size/dietary requirements/religions, etc that the Assistant Editors are. If they can do the job that Bill has offered them, and do it professionally, then good for them.

8: I have no issues with anyone on Frothers. I don't care what they think of me, and to try to change their minds would be folly anyway. They'll believe what they want to believe. No blood, guns, or fire involved.

9: I have never line-danced….

10: I am a member, or have been a member, or am sponsoring in the following organizations, (so there is no need to do any type of "investigative dirt digging)…

A: The NRA: (yes…THOSE guys)…
B: The NAR: (National Association of Rocketry….they shoot model rockets)…
C: AUSA: (Association of The United States Army)
D: NCOA: (Non-Commissioned Officers Association)
E: RPGA: TSR's old Role Playing Game Association
F: GAMA: Game Manufacturers Association
G: USASABOT Brotherhood of Tankers (Veteran Organization for Tank Crewman)
H: USAMIV: United States Army Military Intelligence Veterans
I: SCV: Sons of Confederate Veterans (Calvin Crozier Camp #792 El Paso Texas)
J: SCA: "Society for Creative Anachronism, Barony of the Citadel of The Southern Pass, Kingdom of The Outlands"…
K: USCWA: United States Civil War Association
L: Civil War Preservation Trust: Battlefield and Historical Preservation.
M: HMGS Midwest Chapter

We also sponsor a missionary on campus at IU through a Christian Organization called "The Rock"…..

And we sponsor a child in Africa through World Vision, and we sponsor a baby elephant through The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust.

I've also donated to The American Ireland Fund, and the Salvation Army.

I think that covers most of the groups I am in, or have been part of….

11: I'm on this site primarily to discuss miniature wargaming and the entire hobby aspect of it. At other times I discuss other things but the hobby is the first focus.

12: I like 25-28mm figs and then 15mm figs…I have some 20mm figs but I think that 20mm is a "Deal with The Devil"….

13: I believe in God, and my Lord Jesus Christ. I will not ridicule you for your personal beliefs of faith or religion, or whether you have one or not…I may question you about it simply because I am curious.

14: I've been married twice, and have two kids.

15: My daughters ex-boyfriend "Bob", is….."gone"….

16: I believe in a persons right to own and carry firearms responsibly for their own personal protection, that of their loved ones and their property. I won't belittle you if you choose not to own or carry, and I hope you do the same towards me.

17: I prefer .45 ACP over 9mm any day of the week….

18: Yes I have a Confederate Battle Flag as my avatar next to my name. No I am not a Neo-Confederate, White Supremacist, KKK'er, Southern Apologist, etc….if you really want to know why, all you have to do is PM me and ask me nicely like a rational mature adult…Without any snark, attitude, etc…

19: I drive a dark blue Ford F150, nicknamed "Buford"….

20: I do not own any pets.

21: I'm left handed…and I eat my steak medium rare, (Porterhouse is my favorite cut, followed by Ribeye)….

22: I like Red Wines, (semi-sweet, and sweet), with Skouras St. George from Greece being at the top of the list so far…

23: I cannot stand The Pittsburgh Stealers (Yes I know how I spelled it and I meant it!)….

24: I don't have Comcast…(Sorry John)….

25: I am not now, nor have I ever been a member of The Communist Party….

26: My mother is in stage 7 of Alzheimers…

27: My favorite pie is Pecan…followed by Blackberry Cobbler…

28: I like rum….

29: I have issues of "The Dragon" Magazine all the way back to issue #33….

30: I am not now…nor have I ever been "The OFM"….

There..I think that about covers it….
If anyone else has any questions that they think they need to know about me, and "blow the lid off of any secret TMP conspiracies", please let me know….

Please feel free to throw sticks and stones my way for a while, and give the other folks a rest…..

And now, back to our regularly scheduled programming….

Weasel31 Jul 2014 2:27 p.m. PST

1: I love chit-and-hexmap games but never played that many and most of them were too expensive when I was a kid.

2: Probably a shooting offence but I never played anything from SPI except maybe an obscure RPG they dabbled in.

3: Member of TMP and Frothers (Filth!). I have accounts on rpg.net, Dragonsfoot and soviet-empire too but don't post regularly on either.

4: I'd post my member name on Frothers but I don't want to get banned on TMP.
Remaining places I am either weasel or runequester depending.

5: Intend to be the last person on earth to not have a facebook account.

6: Greens locally, democrats on the national stage. Voted "socialist people's party" back home (Denmark).

7: Nothing to add.

8: Nothing to add. People seem very eager to assume that every poster on a given forum is part of the "forum agenda" whatever that is.

9: I don't do any dancing.

10: I'm not really a member of many organizations. I donate to moveon and wikipedia and I considered a membership in CP USA but never pulled through on it.
I also give pocket change to bums if I have some. Don't care if they spend it on booze or food.

11: Nothing to add.

12: Mainly a 15mm gamer but have been moving into 6 and 10mm lately and will likely stay there. Bigger than 15, and I start to lose interest though I do keep some 1/72 plastics about.

13: Atheist since a very young age. Don't care what you believe as long as it's kept out of gubermint.

14: Married once, one kid.

15: My son is about the age where he thinks girls have cooties.

16: Support gun ownership with some reasonable controls. Don't own firearms. At some point, I wouldn't mind owning some historical rifles (SMLE, M1, Nagant etc) but no money or space for it.

17: Real men use swords.

18: My avatar is my cat Scruffy. I keep a Danish and a Soviet flag in my house and we have some American flags somewhere too, though they got chewed up. My kid wants one for his room.

19: Kia soul in a sort of green'ish fruit colour.

20: 2 cats, Mittens and Scruffy. Mittens is a furry balloon that is occasionally friendly and Scruffy is a gigantic Maine Coon cat that loves everybody.

21: Right handed and honestly, prefer pizza to steak.

22: Beer drinker all the way. I don't mind wine but I never really find a situation where I'd prefer wine to beer, especially with a nice meal.

23: No interest in cricket :)

24: I do have Comcast and they're friggen thieves.

25: Was a socialist party member back home and considered CP USA membership but can't be arsed.

26: My mother is 6 feet under.

27: I believe in all pies equally (but pear pies with whipped cream are a little more equal)

28: Tequila or Vodka when I do drink booze. Never got on with rum and Whiskey is just not cut out for me.

29: Miss old Dragon and White Dwarf.

30: Nothing to add.

dBerczerk31 Jul 2014 2:29 p.m. PST

Actually, the correct title of the position is, "Principal Adviser to the Deputy Assistant Editor of TMP for Fire Control."

wrgmr131 Jul 2014 6:04 p.m. PST

Sorry to hear about you mom Murphy.
Mine passed many years ago now. But I'm 56.

Great job of lightening the mood around here.

1. I used to play Avalon Hill's Panzerblitz until the counters almost wore out. We also played SPI's Wacht am Rhine at least a dozen times.

2. I'm a member of TMP and LAF with wrgmr1 being on both.I had no idea what Frothers was until the recent fracas.

3. I have FB presence personally and professionally.

4. I've voted Liberal, Conservative and NDP and Green, usually to get rid of they current twit we have in office.

5. I agree completely: I don't care what age/race/gender/beliefs/social status/shoe size/dietary requirements/religions, etc that the Assistant Editors are. If they can do the job that Bill has offered them, and do it professionally, then good for them.

6. Only went to Frothers once, will never go again.

7. I don't belong to any organizations other than wargaming groups.

8. I have 25/28mm, 20mm and 15mm figures. Napoleonics in 28 and 15mm, insane I know.

8. I've been married twice and have no kids.

9. In Canada it's not easy to buy or own firearms, so I don't, anymore.

17. My mother passed in 1995 of a heart attack.

18. My favorite pie is Key Lime.

19. I like Baily's

20. I have lots of old Wargamers Digest magazine, you know the ones before FOW became the driving force.

That about covers it.

nsolomon9931 Jul 2014 6:11 p.m. PST

Murph, right with you mate.

And I support any constitution that guarantees a man the right to bear model rockets… always have, always will, its just a thing with me.

18: My parents are both gone. Dad went first and for several years my mom and I were best friends. It tore my heart out when she suddenly passed away.

OK, I'll add my two cents of a boring life.

1. I was born in an Italian neighborhood in Chicago.

2. Started playing with toy soldiers when I was very small and have never stopped.

3. I was leader of an Italian Street gang when I was young.

4. I managed a rock band and ran two dance halls in Chicago.

5. I became leader of a well known Biker gang in Chicago as I got older.

6. I was drafted and thrown out of the service after 6 months for being "Crazy" (duh!)

7. I was involved in the riots during the democratic convention in Chicago.

8. Was arrested numbers of times and almost killed a few times.

9. Finally turned to the Lord out of desperation and despair and am now an assistant Minister in an Assembly of God church in CA.

10. I run Miniature Service Center and have for over 30 years now.

11. Don't drink or do drugs anymore and don't have a wife or pets. Too busy a life I guess.

12. I enjoy gaming and have games at my home with numbers of people from my church including Fathers and their sons, High School and collage kids, Police and professors and everything in between. (Ya, me having cops for friends!) I think God has a sense of humor.

13. I'm 67 yrs. old and no physical problems! Thank God.

14. I enjoy TMP and the discussions that go on. (Although I wish some people would turn down the anger at times expressed too much)

15. I've never used any of the buttons to cut off the views of other people. (Just sit there and fume a bit but it keeps my blood flowing.)

Anyway, that my story in a nut shell.

Frederick the not so great01 Aug 2014 6:27 a.m. PST

Well, since everyone is coming clean….I have to admit I don't play….dare I say it…Flames of War..Sorry.

OldGrenadier Fezian01 Aug 2014 6:49 a.m. PST

Well, here goes:

1) Cut my gaming teeth on SPI, but I understand that game taste is personal and many folks don't like SPI.

2)I'm not on Frothers or LAF, but I am on ConsimWorld under my real name.

3)On Facebook.

4)Registered Democrat.

5)I don't care about faith, color, sexual preference, etc.

6)An argument could be made that I don't dance, even though I tried as a younger man.

7)Member of no local/regional/national gaming group.

8)I am here to talk about hobby stuff.

9)I game mostly in 28mm now, but I started in 15mm and still use them once in awhile.

10)I believe in the right to bear arms, but don't carry. My only firearm is a French Chassepot that I inherited from my grandfather. I have no idea how he got it.

11)I drive a minivan.

12)Married with three human kids and a chocolate Lab that thinks she's a Terrier.

13)I eat meat and vegetables.

14)I have Direct TV.

15)My birth parents are both dead. I'm not on speaking terms with my step-father.

16)I used to drink vodka a lot. I stopped when I started getting sick before I got drunk.

17)I have a huge number of Strategy & Tactics magazines, and sold off a huge collection of The Dragon (all the way back to issue 1) about 20 years ago.

basileus6601 Aug 2014 6:57 a.m. PST

Time to confess our sins:

1. I like to play AH's ASL, have all the published modules and the boards in duplicate.

2. I buy more minis than I will ever be able to paint, even if I would see my 100th birthday.

3. No, I won't ask my kids to be buried with my miniatures.

4. I spend too much money in my hobby.

5. I hate taxes over sales. I understand why they are collected, but hate them anyway.

6. I wrote and publish a book about the Spanish guerrilla. Seriously doubt it has been bought by anyone.

7. I know more about the ACW than about the SCW.

8. I have a soft spot for SYW Austrian Army.

9. I play Warhammer 40K… though not much in the past few years (lack of time, you know).

10. Sons of Anarchy bores me to death.

11. Never watched an episode of Lost.

12. I like the two latest Star Trek movies.

13. I enjoyed watching Battle LA

14. Also Pacific Rim and Gravity.

15. My favourite movie of all times is The Apartment (I am still in love with Shirley McLaine!)

16. I learnt English watching movies, TV shows and reading books. At school, I had French as second language.

17. TMP is my front page.

18. I don't care about what guys at Frothers think about TMP.

19. I have been dawghoused twice. First time for 2 days and second time for 30 days.

20. I have a friendly relationship with Tango.

21. My favourite novel is To Kill a Mockingbird.

Garand01 Aug 2014 7:17 a.m. PST

OK I'll play. My life is somehwat boring…

1) First game I played that wasn't chutes and ladders was D&D. Basic red box version. Graduated to AD&D pretty fast. Also started playing Battletech early on (around '85) when I thought it was a game for Robotech!

2)Member on a number of forums, but TMP is the only general minis forum I read regularly. Frothers is a disaster and not my thing. Also read Warseer on a daily basis as well (for GW games)

3)On Facebook. Check it daily. IMHO FB works well as a news aggregator, and that is primarily how I use it (besides to make fun of my friends…)

4)Registered Democrat.

5)Rational Agnostic. Being agnostic is not the "lazy" way out either, quite the opposite.

6)Do not dance. Ever. Tried it in my drunken youth, not to be repeated.

7)Not a member of an actual organized gaming group, though our RPG group is unofficially known as the "Blackrazors." There is a web presence

8)Only really interested in minis. The drama is getting a bit old (also out of popcorn).

9)Prefer to game in 28mm, but also have lots of 15mm and 6mm. I tried 10mm, never really caught on for me.

10)Guns are OK. I have owned in the past. Some elements of gun culture I try to stay away from, however.

11)Chevy Cruze in "Atlantean Blue." It does not have a name.

12)"Domestic Partner'd" with 2 kids, both girls. Actual marriage is not something I am big on (see religious preferences above for why).

13)I could have Pizza every day of the week if I could.

14)Service Electric.

15)Dad still alive, Vietnam vet and a bit authoritarian. He is cagey about it, but I might have been kidnapped as a toddler…

16)Used to drink like a fish. When I realized getting drunk wasn't actually helping me with the women, I pretty much stopped. Only have an occasional alcoholic beverage now.

17)Complete run of Paizo Dragon magazine, and then some. A few Wargames Illustrated laying around too -- not as much as it is not generally on the stands around here.

Damon.

Patrick Sexton Supporting Member of TMP01 Aug 2014 8:40 a.m. PST

1)Unpainted troops on the table are akin to worshipping Satan.
2)Bases on vehicles are akin to at least being on a first name basis with Satan.
3)I game 15mm sci fi, 40K, SCW, Back of Beyond, pre-dreadnoughts, Tolkien, various air games, Somalia/Mogadishu, 28mm sci fi, French in Indochina and a variety of other genre.
4)Lapsed Catholic
5)Drink a couple of beers a month now, that WAS NOT THE CASE when I was younger. :)
6)Have been with Barb for going on 28 years, I refer to her as my wife but we have never made it 'legal'. We will if one of us needs to go on the other's insurance plan.
7)Comcast
8)Really liked John Carter and the two new Star Trek movies.
9)REALLY disliked Starship Troopers the Movie.
10)Not a registered anything, I just vote my conscience.
11)Pizza five days a week if possible.
12)Have gamed since 1969.
13)Have enjoyed this site since my friend Tony alerted me to it back in 2000.

Footslogger01 Aug 2014 9:14 a.m. PST

You eat your steak medium rare? You barbarian. I'll never speak to you again.

Except I've never spoken to you before. And I WILL have to speak to you again because we will meet in eternity, and for the same reasons.

Confessions? I have in the past enjoyed both Celine Dion and Phil Collins. But I didn't inhale.

Obscure claims to fame? I used to have life-threatening leukaemia, but I got over it. I guess "upstairs" isn't ready for me yet. Anyone here think your life is boring? Boredom is hugely underrated.

And I was once trapped in the middle of the massed band of the Light Infantry.

Weasel01 Aug 2014 9:15 a.m. PST

ArmymenRGreat01 Aug 2014 11:14 a.m. PST

You guys are fascinating and creative!

My confession is that I often come for the drama and stay for the wargaming.

Oh yeah, and I don't own any wargame armies, only toy soldiers.

1. My father taught me to play Avalon Hill Gettysburg before I was 10. He used to get my mother to play Stalingrad, but then he had two sons.
2. I collected some GW stuff when it was state of the art and fun to paint, have always hated the rules
3. I dislike Flames of war but will play it if that is what the guys want to do.
4. Got a hinchliffe French officer with a pistol when I was 11 and we went to Europe. Tried to get into the local wargaming group – which accepted my 3 year older brother but mostly froze me out – Did D and D from the original small booklets for almost 15 years – roped my wife into playing
5. Attended one of the HMGS cons in 1987 in Md and jumped back into historical. I played in Wally Simon's group while I was at UMd for grad school 1986-1988
6. I am a Republican, though less active – used to be on the town committee
7. I am the president of a Missouri Synod Lutheran Church's council
8. I own no firearms but intend to
9. I live in a large cobblestone farmhouse that was the home of Congressman Ely en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alfred_Ely who was captured at the first Bull Run
10 I am retired from the USAF and am now a science teacher on the fringes- currently working at a residential treatment facility
11 I run too many games at the HMGS cons
12 I have worked as a staff member for HMGS cons and worked for Brigade games at the cons
13 I have been married for 29 years
14 I have two kids – son and daughter and two grandkids
15 I need to weigh less and sleep more
16 I am too competitive in one on one situations and work to avoid ever gaming in that mode
17 I am an effective tea totaller( communion wine and the occasional desert drink)
18 I have gotten along with all of my in-laws with the exception of the guy that left my sister in law after fathering two kids then deciding he was gay
19 I really don't care about other people's bedroom habits
20 I don't like crowds and heights

1: My first wargame experience was with plastic (airfix and Minitanks mixed) WWII games at the school wargames club…I was 11.

2: I'm on TMP and LAF…. My name and date of birth combine to give my online persona.

3. I am on Facebook…not always sure why.

4: I was brought up to believe folk are basically decent. I believe too much politics is posturing to engender, exploit and enhance fear of our fellow humans. I tend to vote Labour or Green. I will never vote Liberal again after they entered a coalition with the Conservatives. I believe Margaret Thatcher was evil but don't necessarily believe those who would disagree are similarly evil.

5: I think by believing folks are basically decent you get a head start in understanding when you bump unexpectedly into different people and the "categories" don't matter very much.

6: I've always heeded the many mentions of Frothers being a testing website to visit and therefore have never been there. I have a problem maintaining concentration when too much swearing enters a conversation or forum thread.

7: I have only ever danced to 12 bar boogie (principally Status Quo)…I'm sure it wasn't pretty to watch.

8: I am a member of the Leeds Wargames Club….I used to be a member of the campaign for nuclear disarmament….so I'm on "the list".

9: I don't often contribute to TMP but visit often.

10: I play 25mm Dark Age, 15mm Ancients, 20mm WWII and 15mm ACW. I have 28mm Spanish Napoleonic but haven't ever played with them nor painted very many.

11: 54 years old and married to a girl (woman) I've known since I was 13.

12: I believe if you own a gun you should be in the military reserve and accept military discipline. So I suppose I support the Swiss model.

13: I've only ever fired a .22 rifle at the fair and air weapons in the garden. Got permission to shoot rabbits on a local estate but then didn't have the heart to do so.

14: I drive SAAB 93 diesel….the engine warning light is on.

15: Our house rabbit recently died….At times I believe his spirit possesses our footstool.

16: I love steak 'n' ale pies, and cheese, and bacon sandwiches….having said this I might have a weight problem and need to get my blood pressure checked.

17: I don't know what Comcast is….I probably don't need to.

18: My parents are both dead. Their deaths were close together. Ever since I have been unable to remember dates (i.e. when they died). This troubles me but I have learned to live with it.

18: I don't drink bad beer. Real hand pulled ale and good red wine suit me well. I fall asleep before I get drunk.

19: I've given away nearly all my wargame magazines and no longer buy any. I keep thinking I should subscribe to Slingshot or Ancient Warfare but don't actually complete the deal.

20. I can't figure out what religion is for….but have never had a problem with religious people as long as they don't want to convert me and they don't harp on about any rivalry with differing sects or faiths.

My favorite boardgame is Avalon hill's Battle of the Bulge, the 1964 edition. Perhaps it is because I earned the money to buy it, and stopped on my way home from advanced chemistry courses at a local college to buy it. Played it by mail a lot.
I always thought that SPI games were … full of themselves. grin

I am on TMP. Duh. No one knows why I "came back" or under what circumstances. It is nobody's business, but no begging was involved. I did kind of resent all the righteous elbowing me aside to jump off the bridge with me in solidarity, regardless of my own agenda.

"Beer is proof that God loves us." Did Franklin actually say that? Who cares. I agree. Light beer is good for quenching a thirst after you have been mowing the lawn. Except for Rolling rock, there is no bad beer. Some are better than others. My current favorite is Golden Lager, because my mind has convinced me that cheap is good.

I was raised a Roman Catholic. However I recognized the hypocrisy of confessing the sins I did last Saturday night on Saturday afternoon, and then going out and thoroughly enjoying the same sins that night.

I wish Comcast would outbid DirecTV for the NFL Sunday ticket.

I enjoy the NFL Network when all those grizzled old Oakland Raiders come on to whine about how so many teams and players have stolen from them, from Franco Harris to Tom Brady. Maybe if Al Davis had not been such an obnoxious putz they would have gotten the calls.
And, when they hold the election to crown the Dallas Cowboys "America's Team"? I never voted for them.

I own guns, and so does my son.

Married for 10 years, happily for 3.

Dance? Why?

I like Flames of War, The Sword and the Flame and any rules set that gives AWI armies period flavor.

God also invented the Reuben sandwich. I prefer it without the Russian dressing, though, and if the cheese melts and runs out to get browned, so much the better. Then, to further honor God, I will have a beer or two with it.

I have many sock puppets on TMP, most due to having different computers at home and work. I COULD consolidate them into one by asking for their passwords, but why? I am not breaking any rules, consult the FAQ. And Winston Smith totally agrees with me.

I am a registered Republican because Bill Clinton disgusted me.

I LOVE Youtube and hunting down music. If Youtube were vinyl discs, I would have worn out Linda Ronstadt, Doug Kershaw, Alison Krause and Union Station, Steeleye Span, Bonaparte's Retreat, the Who in the Concert for New York, the Stones doing Not Fade Away, Loreena McKennitt, The Black Bear on bagpipes, The Red Army Chorus (Choir?)…

I wish I could go to more conventions, and would love to run the Wyoming Massacre at Fall In or Cold Wars. Sadly, I cannot plan to go until the last minute.

I love dogs. I currently have a blind 14 yo Aussie Shepherd Samoyed mix and a 2 yo Aussie Shepherd. Lovable dogs.

I believe that anyone who plays wargames and thinks that he is "simulating" ANYTHING is delusional. I am, playing with toy soldiers, and so are you.
