I see Irregular Miniatures has launched its ne Tai Ping range. You can see them at this link. irregularminiatures.co.uk I understand Ian Heath's Green Book informed the sculpting and that there are variants for each of the 11 codes released in the range. It looks a pretty comprehensive range and I was delighted to see Miao troops including the sharp shooting 'Jezails' with their long barrelled guns. I ordered some of these today and will have more to say when I get them and paint 'em. This fills a gap in the 15mm market so well done Irregular. |

Thank you, been looking forward to this range to fill out my "not in her madge's name" VSF force, the dreaded Ying Tong*, the Miao allies look promising! *Think Fu Man Chou's troops and those capable of stealing dinosaur skeletons. |

Excellent. They look like just what the doctor ordered. Hopefully they will sell really well, as I'm claiming responsibility for them following a conversation with IK at Derby! |

Yeah they do look good. I think there were a few of us involved in the Great Tai Ping agitation. Yes I hope they sell well too. If manufacturers see a return on new ranges they are more likely take the chance on new products. I'd say Irregular has become the go to place for nineteenth century stuff. I really liked the IM figures. |

The IM figures have a certain style, and work well for China in 1860. Had to pad the range with some later ones (Bengal Lancers) to get the army sorted. This puts me in a quandary. I had forsworn all things metal and dedicated myself to 20mm plastics. My Mahdists, however, are right fed up with standing in for the Taipings. |

Yeah I really like them. I read your enjoyable blog post with the Bengal Lancers pic. I think you could use QRF Sikh irregular cavalry with lances just give then a uniform coat and they will look just like Probyn's lads. I'll post a link size wise the fit nicely. Give the Mahdists a break and chance a £25.00 GBP Army Deal? |

I saw these the other day too on Irregular's site, between them and the Benin figs, they'll be fun for 15mm skirmish games too (um, edit – not against each other though!). |

Yes, I may have to indulge in an Army Deal as a starter. However, I have about 20 boxes of Hat/Italeri to finish first, and I'm trying to practice what I preach: link My Brits are finished now, so even if there are better figures available I won't swap (its the way I am, I'm afraid). The QRF stuff for Frenchies is very enticing, however. |

I hear you Trebian I'm up to my neck in Parthians at the moment. On the plus side just one more IM unit to paint before the Pingers arrive. Yes the QRF FPW figures are grand I have both sides from them. Those Benin figures are tempting. |

Well the Pingers arrived and I have a couple of units painted but not yet based. I started with the Miao. There are four variants of spearmen all in pretty much the same pose with different clothes, turbans, head cloths, feathers. They look good. The musketeers are all advancing with long barrelled guns and some wear turbans, the rest have the typical Miao long hair style tied up in strips of cloth-very nice. I have painted them as black Miao and white Miao and they look the business. I bought a couple of Jingals and some swordsmen to make a Tai Ping skirmish unit. The jingals are good with a crewman taking aim. The swordsmen are waving their swords and have the typical Chinese Tiger shields three variants counted so far. I like them. Also painted a couple of officers one pose as far as I can see and looking pretty good. Not started on the rest of the Tai Ping yet but I'll report back when I get to them. I did notice a Chinese circular saddle on one of the horses. Size wise they fit well with Falcon 15s Imperials and Khurasan's which is good because that's the opposition. At my painting rate its going to be some time before I'm campaigning with Li in the valley. |
