The normal consensus was that politics are not permitted.

I know this board leans pretty heavy ideologically but outright cheer leading for a conflict where actual, human beings are dying right now is pretty low, and it's making me worried about being commercially linked with the site.

Since we have a wealth of editors now, any chance we can get either some clarifications on what is and is not "political" or just some actual moderation.

Mr Elmo30 Jul 2014 11:33 a.m. PST

I would say that scenarios for IDF assaulting Hamas in an orphanage is not politics and would be wargaming.

Discussing the ethics of using such locations as bases or shelling them is politics.

T Meier30 Jul 2014 11:34 a.m. PST

Yeah, the original post was just news but some of the comments are Blue Fez IMO.
I think as a rule somebody has to complain before the editor intervenes.

Boondock Saint30 Jul 2014 11:44 a.m. PST

Wow, more deleted posts on that link than on the various topics on the recent drama.

Posts which strayed from discussing the military and wargaming aspects of the topic have been deleted.

Remember, use the complaint button if you think forum rules are being broken….

No, but we just may not see it until someone hits the complaint button – TMP is rather large…

Weasel30 Jul 2014 11:56 a.m. PST

Appreciate the heads up and sure, I'll use the complaint button.
Still thinking some clarification or some sort of "sticky" thread might be useful in the Modern forum since it seems to get this kind of thing a lot more frequently.

jpattern230 Jul 2014 1:09 p.m. PST

The TMPers who post politics over and over again almost always know exactly what the "no politics" and "10 years" rules are, and how far they can push it. Many of them also have no problem jumping right over that line, as in that thread, knowing that it usually results in nothing more than the deletion of their posts and rarely results in DHing.

14Bore30 Jul 2014 2:03 p.m. PST

That posting is worse than a government document you might get from a freedom of information request.

deephorse30 Jul 2014 4:32 p.m. PST

So Bill, on what basis do you decide to simply delete the post rather than DH the offender when the rules are broken?

So Bill, on what basis do you decide to simply delete the post rather than DH the offender when the rules are broken?

In some cases, practicality – we're busy behind the scenes here at TMP today, so I didn't want to DH a lot of people. grin

Come on Boss, fill up that Dawghouse!

I was DH'ed twice, never receive a warning nor a deleted post!

I'm not saying I didn't deserve it, I just want to see everyone that earns their trip receive it ;)

V/R,
Jack

Are there a lot more steps to Dawghousing someone as opposed to deleting a post? It's not just "flipping a switch"?

StarfuryXL530 Jul 2014 5:37 p.m. PST

Well, just ignore "Free …" posts and go paint.

Well, you're supposed to explain why they're there, give a link, redact the original post, and (on a good day) PM them to let them know what happened.

How about "Don't"?

Mallen31 Jul 2014 5:51 a.m. PST

There are plenty of political forums out there. I come here every day to escape reality.

Oh Bugger31 Jul 2014 6:25 a.m. PST

Yeah that's the truth. Every flavour catered for too. Its always puzzled me why anyone would want to bang on about politics on a wargames board. Still some folks like to.

They can always go to The Blue Fez, our sister website for politics and religion discussions: thebluefez.com

Ivan DBA01 Aug 2014 5:08 p.m. PST

This is why I turned off the Modern Boards.

brunet02 Aug 2014 1:06 p.m. PST

I would say that no modern article regarding politics is put on TMP boards;ít only generates discussion

'I don't think I will buy your products ever, and will now tell everyone I know not to buy your products.
Wiznard'

I doubt he'd notice nor care and good on him.

Weasel02 Aug 2014 3:59 p.m. PST

edited for snippiness.

I wouldn't want to support a site if cheer leading on a military action is acceptable demeanour. It doesn't matter which side the cheer leaders are on.
Same reason I wouldn't advertise my products on Stormfront or SovietEmpire.

Bill removed the posts that were violating the rules that /everyone/ agreed to, upon signing up, on both sides.

If that affects your purchasing decisions, that's your call.
If you don't want to see what I post, you can use the Ignore function.

Weasel02 Aug 2014 6:23 p.m. PST

It would be outrageous if that is what took place. As we can both tell from my post, that didn't happen.

If you want the "no politics" rule changed, appeal to the Editor.

My opinion is that the rules of TMP should be enforced on TMP. If you feel the rules should be different, it's incumbent on you to make that case.

Weasel02 Aug 2014 6:44 p.m. PST

Again:

When you join the forum you agree to follow the rules.

If you feel this should not apply, then make that case to Bill or the forum can decide it in a democratic fashion via a poll.

Weasel02 Aug 2014 7:08 p.m. PST

Your concern for my commercial well being is endearing but you will no doubt forgive me for not taking online forum advice from a guy with five times as many stifles and ignores as myself.

Have a pleasant evening.

Tango India Mike09 Aug 2014 6:08 a.m. PST

I have to agree with weasel here. I don't advertise here but I'm a small manufacturer and have considered doing so.
I'm getting seriously hacked off with the inconstancy with regard to so called rules. Sockpuppets aren't allowed unless you are a certain high volume poster and then it is apparently tolerated officially.
More important I'm seeing more and more blatant political posts around Ukraine and Gaza. This is all looking more and more like the Current Affairs board and I remember how that ended – in acrimony and discord.
Take a look at the link above and note who just as it's finishing is reposting further inflammatory "news" articles about a sniper rifle. Also, when a news article says not independently verified that generally means propaganda.
I'm not taking a side on the Gaza Israel issue but commenting the discussion of it belongs in the Blue Fez not here in moderns "wargaming" board.
Rant over.

You are mistaken. Please read the site FAQ: TMP link
