link Laura Matthews, 29, changed her name by deed poll in 2008 "for a bit of a laugh". She recently tried to renew her passport and amended her signature to "L. Skywalker". The Home Office said it "will not recognise a change to a name which is subject to copyright or trademark". Interesting. According to MyHeritage (genealogy website) there are 672 families with the surnmae Skywalker: link Would seem a bit harsh if that was actually her name, even by deed poll (i.e. it should have been rejected on teh deed poll, surely, but once legally recognised that 'is' her name…? Except of course that her name was actually changed to Laura Elizabeth Skywalker Matthews so perhaps if her singnature reflected her actualy name (eg L. Matthews) or she had hyphenated it to Skywalker-Matthews, or even changed the surname to just Skywalker she would'nt have had such an issue? |

Perhaps more importantly… why was he named Luke Skywalker, if Obi-Wan was trying to hide him? link Anakin Skywalker surely would have had a pretty good hunt on AncestryGalactic.com for any Skywalkers? If he was hidden with good old Uncle Owen Lars (step-brother of Anakin… gosh, hadn't thought of checking with my step-brother) why was he not using Luke Lars? |

Why? Because Lucas is a hack who never thought through anything. Thank goodness he's not in charge of Star Wars anymore. |

The empire thought the kids had not been born, no need to look for someone you did not know existed. Considering all the other continuity mistakes between the originals and the prequals this one is a trifle. |

I love Luke's comments in the early minutes. "Of course I hate the Empire." Like that is what all the Cool Kids do. Then why is he so upset that he can't go to the Academy this year ? |

I'm gonna change my name to Games Workshop… I think to me, what is shocking is that Obi Wan cut off Anakin's limbs, stole his sword, left him to be burnt to death… and when he found that that Anakin didn't die, gave the sword to Anakin's son, fed him the lie that "Darth Vader" killed Luke's father, and then trained Luke so he would unknowingly kill his own father. And the jedi are supposed to be the good guys? |

I always root for the Empire anyway. Is their a website detailing how evil the Jedi are? |

@GeoffQRF Who says Obi-wan was trying to hide Luke? He was using him as bait. |

I'd hand that Skywalker chick over to the Empire for the reward, call me Gredo. 8•> |

Interesting link, Grey Ghost, though I think delving into stuff not in the films constitutes "cheating" on the concept. A better list would focus instead solely on the behavior and attitudes in the films, and even more in just the original trilogy. Honestly, I can't think of much in IV-VI, though that stupid nonsense that anger and aggression are necessarily evil comes to mind. But that's more the folly of Lucas's illogical philosophy than evil itself. The prequels, however, feature a Jedi system that is far more objectionable. They remove very young children from the care and comfort of their parents, with no apparent opportunity by the parents to object or raise the child. They teach against love (and thus compassion) as a human ideal. (Now *that's* evil.) They accept and support a governmental system that permits slavery. They support apparent dictatorships (Naboo, with its autocratic queen, and the Gungan "Big Boss," as well as the Hutt oligarchy). And of course the coup attempt mentioned in the linked list. But I doubt we'll see any of that addressed in the new films. |

Interesting analysis on that website, never thought of it that way – but to be honest, I´m a bit detached from Star Wars by now and was probably too young back then to view it in a critical perspective ;) Just like always throughout human history, it all comes down to interests and power – there´s no good and bad, no black and white, only grey in different shades. |

Perhaps more importantly… why was he named Luke Skywalker, if Obi-Wan was trying to hide him? The onus lies with Ep1 making Tatooine Vader's homeworld. If Tatooine was REALLY a backwater nowhere planet that didn't show up until Ep4, it probably wouldn't have mattered if Luke was named Darth Vader Jr. . So what we should really be asking is, why did Kenobi feel the scene of the crime was the best hiding place for the kid? Sadly, we all know the answer. |

Perhaps she should inquire to see if Han Solo's ankle is any better, and she can afford the fee to be smuggled out of her present location. |
