On the night of 28th/29th July 1914, the Austro Hungarian gunboat, Bodrog, fired the first shots of WW1. Remarkably the Bodrog is still afloat on the Danube having been in 5 naval actions and been scuttled twice (1941 and 1944) link It would be great to see such an important vessel restored. |

Another of the AH Danube monitors, the Leitha was restored back in 2010. The hull was found working as a gravel barge. Leitha is based out of Budapest. Cant find it right now but there is a video on line that shows her retoration and display during the Szent István day (Aug 20th) celebrations in front of the Parliment. leitha.hu/view.php?a=kezdolap&lng=hu |
