Kind of a lame name but everything else about this looks good: link It contains enough figures to play a game of Infinity, you really don't need any more unless you want variety. It has terrain, a gaming mat, dice and everything else you'd expect in a starter set. I have both Pan Oceana and Nomads so I'm not sure this set will be terribly useful to me. I have enough of both fusiliers and Alguiciles at this point. It looks like it is going to be a little more than $100. USD Probably not a great investment for anyone already playing that has Pan Oceana or Nomads but it would be a fantastic way to get in the game for new people. |

Any news on 3rd edition rules? |

The new rulebook is included in the Icestorm set. |

I have nomads, but not Pan Oceana. I've been thinking about picking up another faction for solo gaming or to get my non-minis playing friends some games. It doesn't look like there is a huge amount of duplication with the Nomads starter, so I might pick this one up! Damon. |

This is just what the doctor ordered! :-) |

While I suspect the mat and card buildings will be handed off to others, I am still thinking about picking this up. |

I'm probably going to pick it up at GenCon. |

Note: The rules included are the 3e Quick-start rules, not the full rules (rules which will be free to download as soon as the book is released, BTW). |

They said that all mini's are new designs/sculpts, and each faction gets an extra mini (Knight and Reverend Healer) + a pre-order exclusive (yellow sticker on box – limited to 5000 sale units and pre-order/Gencon? only). |

The Knight and Reverend Healer are unique sculpts for the O:I box. If you pre-order the box, you will get an additional unique sculpt, the High Value Target model. And if you arrange for a pre-order and GenCon pickup, there's a GenCon unique mini, too. As far is we've been able to get out of Corvus Belli, the total production run for Op Icestorm is 5000 units. As best as the rest of the forum can figure, this would let CB to make a new 'intro' box with different factions every year or two. My money is on every other year or so, alternating with Expansion books. |

How "quick-start" are the quick-start rules? Are we talking pamplet? (I have one of those) Or just everything shy of advanced rules, addl. equipment, and background/force lists for other factions? This would be a dealbreaker for me. I respect the offering of free rules, but I would MUCH rather have a print copy for "pretty" rules (like these), and that's another $40 USD+. |

I think that the quick start rules really are pretty quick-start. All the rules used by units in the box set, and maybe just the units included. I don't know, haven't seen the details yet. But from everything that has been leaked so far, they're purely quickstart. Bare minimums or maybe a little more, just to get you started. Why put a full copy of the rules into the starter box when the full rules have been freely downloadable since day 1? The only reason to buy the rulebook is to get the setting info and art. You know, the actual copyrightable stuff. |

Beasts of War are running a comprehensive thread on Icestorm. The rules are 'full', but only cover the rules required for the models in the boxset, and are structured in a learn as you play style – great if your new to Infinity (as I am), not sure if useful to older players. Rules do use the 3rd Ed. systems though. |

Ah, I can't stand the Beasts of War podcasts/youtube videos. Apparently, there have been enough changes between 2e and N3 that it would probably be good for old players to work up through the QSR, too. I know that there has been a monster change in the weapons rules alone (shotguns got a HUGE bump up, and HMGs got somewhat de-buffed, but the HMGs needed it.) |

The rules are 'full', but only cover the rules required for the models in the boxset… That's better, then. I may have to give this a go. Thanks, guys. |

Like Lion, I can't stand listening to BoW videos. That said, I try to wait for the inevitable transcripts that do pop up and cover the material in a more easily digested written form. QSR aren't the full rules by a long shot (they often omit certain sets of rules because the models in the "starter lists" don't have certain weapons (NO light/heavy Flamethrower templates in the box, for example). Full details on skills aren't listed, either (levelled skills usually include the previous levels – if you have l3 of something, you have levels 1-2 as well). They are an introduction to the rules for those new to the game, not a replacement for the full rules. In the same way GW's marines/tyranid starter from 4th edition was. They gave you enough to start learning to play the game – but weren't the full quid. |
