I've bought some of Timecast's excellent 6mm Vietnamese hooches and the questions "exactly what color is a bamboo hut?" and "what specific color is a palm thatch roof?" never really occurred to me before. I've poured over images on the Internet, but it still seems a good idea to ask what colors everyone else uses. Thanks! |

All the pictures I've seen indicate that like wood, huts faded to gray pretty quickly. But I want a hint of brown in them. So I undercoat in a medium golden brown, then do a heavy dry brush of mid gray followed by a lighter drybrush of light gray. This is the kind of look I go for:
