The one on the left is very simple to do and the one on the right has more work as it has glueing, painting, washing and drybrushing but I think the contrast with the figure is better.
What do you think? Is it worth the effort on the second base or should I go for the first option?

Perfer the left one.

Yeah the left one for me as we'll.

Me too!

You probably notice the lesser contrast on the left figure because he's not wearing blue trousers. I vote left too

Paint the four vertical sides of each base in either khaki, flat black, Russian green, or Goblin Green paint.

Then decide.

Funny everybody says the left one as I think the right one is better :)
I think I'll do what dBerczerk suggests and then decide.

I'd mix the two styles … some earthier, some grassier …

I'd mix them too. Perhaps you could distinguish one unit from another based on the flock style?

Now that's an idea…
Thank you lads!

I like the right one best.
But since one has more work than the other – doesn't it also come down to how many bases you've got to do in the first place?
