For those interested… Tonight the History (sic) Channel is airing four episodes of this new series. Rather than cover the war in general they seem to be focusing on specfic technological developments. The first episode is on tanks. The second is on large bomb carrying airships. The third on the weaponizing of chemicals. The fourth on submarines. Hope it turns out better than their series "The World Wars". |

Artillery and machineguns caused the most casualties. Let's ignore that… |

And what's wrong with that statement skippy? The word "machieguns"? I'm pretty sure after artillery, MG's were probably next? I think it's a fairly good show for the History channel… |

War between the States – Submarines, machineguns, aircraft, mines. Weaponised chemicals?, riiight, no such things as spiders then, Greeks chucking jars of poisonous snakes or chemical warfare at Dura Europos (Rome vs Persia). |

I watch a lot of documentaries on Netflix and there's too much 'bent fluff'. I'm old and cranky today so don't mind me. |

ACW? No machine guns. Rapid firing guns, yes; but the frtst " Machine gun" was invented by Hiram Maxim. A " Machine gun" is one in which the action of firing, loading and ejecting cartridges is performed by the action of gases upon the weapon's mechanisms. Also submarines, mines,"aircraft", railways were used in warfare before the ACW. The only true innovation the ACW seems to have introduced was barbed wire! |
