Guys – here are some pics of Patrick Lebeau's 15mm Gettysburg game at Historicon. link |

Saw this in person at my Historicon my travels, and it is a truly gorgeous table. "The fantastic terrain board was professionally designed and printed by John Hill and Todd Davis." The one thing about a game like this, IMHO, is that in order to make the investment of time and money worthwhile, you really have to run it at multiple shows, and maybe even multiple years. Nothing wrong with that, and it allows more people to enjoy the fruits of dedication needed to produce a game like this! Thanks for sharing it with us! Peter |

I notice that the rules used were John Hill's new regimental level Civil War rules … Across A Deadly Field. These are coming out from Osprey next month. Here is a link to the listing on Amazon: link I wonder how these differ from Johnny Reb? Can anyone that played in the game at HISTORICON comment? Thanks, Mark |

why are the fences so out of scale? they look tiny and goofy… |
PJ ONeill | 26 Jul 2014 11:55 a.m. PST |
John- The ground scale is 80 yards/inch, most of the fences were printed on the felt map and were printed large, so they could be seen. Ono- The mechanics are similar to Johnny Reb III, at a smaller scale. The Figure to man ratio is 1:60, up from 1:30 for JRIII. Simo-movement is replaced by 2 actions per unit or group and 1 reaction for the non-active player, then reversed. You can do Corps vs Corps games faster than Division vs Div. in JRIII |

So, if I only have a 4x4 table to play on, would ADF still work ok, or should I just keep on with Sharpe Practice? |
Onomarchos | 26 Jul 2014 12:57 p.m. PST |
Thanks PJ. I notice that regiments are now two stands and batteries are one gun. I guess I will need more command stands. Mark |

ADF has charts and tables for 3 scales 6/10mm – ground scale 100 to 120 yds/inch 15mm – 80 to 100 yds/inch 25mm – 60 to 80 yds/inch My game at Hist'14 was on a board 3ft by 4.5 ft and we played a Division vs Division in 15mm. So, Yes 4x4 will work fine. |

Ono- There is a nice option for 3 stands per regiment. I use flags on movable pins to identify Brigades, with few actual flagbearers, so I got off easy. |

There is a nice resource for ADF at Cory Rings "Cigar Box Battles" cigarboxbattle.com After action reports from playtests, colorful charts and tables. |

OnoMarchus – there were two reviews in the latest Battlegames / MW (376). It seems a bit random to me that after saying the regiment was key element in ACW combat John Hill is moving to 1:60 figure ratio (after 1:20 and 1:30 in JRI – III). Still, the reviews said there were some interesting mechanisms. I guess with F&F, F&F Regimental, JRIII and Guns at Gettysburg to name but a few, ACW gamers have a lot of choice. |

So that terrain is 2d? I mean the terrain board and fences. Any possibility that copies will be sold? |

@Ono: Besides Cigarboxbattle.com's article, there are reviews of ADF in Wargames Illustrated and ACW Gamer: The Ezine. @Bede19025: Go here: link |
PJ ONeill | 26 Jul 2014 4:48 p.m. PST |
Bede- Yes, most of the terrain is 2D, there are some houses (G'burg), trees and fences added, but most of what you see is 2D. John Hill and Todd Davis made the image and had it custom printed, I don't know by who. I do not think it will be commercially marketed. |

Thanks everyone for the pointers to various reviews. I think I am going to give them a try, so I pre-ordered them from Amazon. Mark |
