In the case of Tombstone, that was literally true. Actually, the real "cowboys" preferred to be called "drovers," "cattlemen," or just about anything to "cowboys" which was a term referring to rustlers and thieves dating back to the 1700s. Just a bit of trivia :) |

In the case of Tombstone it is literally a case of the winners writing the history. Recent research shows that the situation was a lot more complicated than the Earps reported it to be. For a while Wyatt and the Clantons were business partners. A lot of the bad blood between Wyatt and Beehan stemmed from the fact that Beehan beat Wyatt in the election for Sheriff. And the Earps were far from popular in Tombstone. The fact that Wyatt lived into the twentieth century and became friends with the early movie western heroes like Tom Mix and William S. Hart and that Josie lived into I believe the 1940s didn't hurt the Earp legend. |
