Starting last week and continuing for the next couple of weeks the LoA Blog is running a detailed introduction and preview of the forthcoming Swedish Infantry for the GNW range in 28mm. The first three codes can be found here leagueofaugsburg.blogspot.co.uk Command and Musketeers to follow. Currently a further 6 packs are being mastered. |

Is there a good Karl XII personality fig yet? |
jocknroll | 26 Jul 2014 2:15 a.m. PST |
We have not started sculpting the personalities yet but it is our intention to offer the widest possible choice of famous figures from the war. The sculpting programme for this range is fairly enormous with 70 Swedish sculpts already completed. The final total of Swedish infantry sculpts either unique or head variant will run to 110. Russians will be similar. |

Excellent stuff, saw them all on your entertaining blog. I just wish I could afford 28mm figs. Oh well, at least I can enjoy your offerings and AARs. (Our local group does do the period, including using the Lily Banners rules but using 18mm Blue Moon figs) |

First of the command codes are featured today link These sculpts are indicative of the attacking look we've gone for with the majority of the Swedes. New unpainted greens will feature over the next wee or so also. |

Nice! How would they match up with the old Foundry figs? |
jocknroll | 30 Jul 2014 3:16 a.m. PST |
I haven't done a direct comparison with the GNW sculpts from Warfare and the old Foundry stuff but previously did a general size comparison piece with Warfare – OG – FR – Dixon – Foundry which is on the web and on these boards somewhere(don't know where though!) Foundry will be smaller and a bit dumpier. The anatomy of the GNW stuff we are producing is very similar to Perry proportions. By comparing old designed Perry figures(ie Foundry GNW) with their new stuff you'd get the idea. The gamers answer though is ; At 18 inches distance on a crowded table.. no real issue! |

Love the drummer! Do you think the sergeant figures could be used as a 1740's 1750's officer? |

I saw Swedish uniforms from the SYW period in the Army Museum in Stockholm. To my recollection there was no difference to those used in the Great Northern War unless they were very minor. I do not recall anything significant. From the point of view of a 28mm mini I would say you could use them. Maybe some real expert will disagree. Interestingly one of my most photographed units of 'GNW Swedes' are in fact Foundry Russian Corps of Observation figures from the SYW. I haven't yet received a visit from the Wargames Fashion Police Death Squads yet and I painted them in 1996. Here they are: link CLICK THROUGH TO PHOTO 3 IN THE GALLERY |

@jocknroll; Well, now that you've revealed yourself the WFP Death Squads will certainly home in! Especially for that unit of Foundry grenadiers with lapels! I have a 1942 Christmas magazine article from Sweden that seems to be the origin of that particular piece of mythology! The mannikin in that article's illustration is wearing a 1765 pattern coat with the skirts let down; a 1740's grenadier mitre with the bag hanging down because the thread stitching it to the plate has worn through ( you can actually see the worn threads and the holes in the plate in the photo!). ANd it's purporting to be a grenadier from Poltava! Just bad museum curatorship that has spawned a host of books from the 40's onward showing the Lieb Regiment Grens with lappels and that Godawful hanging bag! |
