I am gathering information to purchase miniatures for a Breton SAGA warband. For those with experience using the Bretons in SAGA here is my question.

Should I purchase one group of Warriors on foot for the warband.

It seems that the Breton advantage is mobility combined with high missile volume. With this in mind, it might be best to build the entire Warband around only mounted units. But it might be useful to have one foot unit for defensive missions.

Thanks for any thoughts on the matter.

Don't know if you're aware of the "official" SAGA forum (my apologies if you are), but if not you may find this particular thread useful:-

I think your best bet is to get a unit of Flemish mercs to use in situations where you want some defensive infantry. Breton infantry is still rubbish in melee, so the only benefit would be that you can stand in the face of shooting a bit better. But nothing stands in the face of shooting better than the Flemish mercs. Taking a group of levy is worthwhile in some cases as well, even when not needing something that can operate in rough terrain. The levy throw more javelins per point than anyone else, and that can be quite a boon when used with the excellent shooting battle board abilities.

Thank you for the information

I highly recommend having a unit of levy javelin as part of your force. They can screen, toss javelins, and are, as they say, expendable.
