"When Bob Inman sat down to write the story of the Battle of Kings Mountain, he had done his research. He knew it was a great patriot victory, one that many historians say turned the tide of the Revolutionary War, leading directly to a British surrender at Yorktown, Va., just one year later. But what Inman wanted to tell was the story of the people. His new play. "Liberty Mountain," which will be performed at the Joy Performance Center in Kings Mountain this October, focuses on their story. "What I was interested in was the story of the people who lived in the Carolinas around that time, the reason they had for wanting to be free from England, the way they lived, their culture and their Scots-Irish Presbyterian background," he said. My ancestor, Pvt. Hugh Rogers, fought at King's Mountain and also met his future wife(Nancy Thornton) there, as she was carrying water refreshment for the thirsty Patriot militia. I am VERY interested in anything that tells the story of the people who fought there (on both sides). |

Two of my ancestors were there with Shelby, serving as junior officers. I think it's the only engagement they were in, though one was reportedly wounded during a skirmish in NC later. |
