I visited the Army Heritage Days event at the Army Heritage and Education Ctr. in Carlisle, PA (USA) a few years ago. Among many fabulous displays and re-enactors was a unit of these gun trucks. Lots of mobile firepower. Thanks for the neat link Tango! |

My Dad was a gunner on a trailer mounted quad 50 during WW2. He said it was primarily an anti-aircraft weapon but deadly against light skinned vehicles and devastating against infantry. He was glad to be on his side of the weapon. |

Yes, the quad .50 had the ability to fire not only direct LOS, but indirect with it's 6800m max range. Hence the VC called it Whispering Death. They might hear the distant firing of the weapon. Then shortly afterward, they'd hear the rounds whistling and cutting thru the air, but by that time it was too late … |
